EPISODE REVIEW - EMMERDALE CELEBRATES THEIR 50TH ANNIVERSARY WITH A SPECIAL ONE HOUR EPISODE
Tonight (16th October) saw Yorkshire based soap, Emmerdale air on its 50th anniversary with a special hour-long episode with a fantastic stunt that had me on the edge of my seat right from the very start. Written by Karin Young and directed by Ian Bevitt who both deserve credit.
Everyone who knows me knows will know how much I have been looking forward to this episode airing, it's thanks to the Grandma that I realised my love for this show. I also hoped that I would get to watch it with her sadly, it wasn't to be!
There was such a sentimental feel to the opening of the episode as it showed Emmerdale paying homage to the very first episode with the horse that Kim Tate came to her wedding on. A very special moment came in the way that Emmerdale remembered some of the past characters who have left their stamp on the village. It was lovely to see Kim and Eric Pollard sharing a scene two icons of the Dales.
At the forefront of the episode were Kim Tate and Will Taylor as they married in front of many villagers in the church by Charles Anderson. It was nice to see many different villagers entangled within the wedding, giving it a real village feel - this is the Emmerdale I know and love. The battle lines were clearly drawn by Kim and Harriet Finch but the sorry later in the episode was sweet.
Will and Kim speaking ahead of the wedding saw a heart-to-heart like no other. Will standing up to Kim was brilliant! Kim stomping round to Harriet's to have it out with her was brilliant to see. Kim wanting to look amazing was sweet said a lot about how she feels. The way Kim came to her wedding on horseback was beautiful and something only Kim would do. Kim getting an emotional was beautiful to see especially with her being such a strong character! You've gotta love how Dawn Taylor is all jokey with Kim. Kim helping in the search for Amelia was fantastic to see allowing for a real village feel of pulling together.
The powerful moment came as Faith Dingle's body was bought out. How beautiful was it to see Diane Sugden, Rodney Blackstock, Victoria Sugden, Eric Pollard, Brenda, Chas Dingle, Paddy Kirk, and Charity Dingle in The Woolpack singing and reminiscing.
It was fantastic to see Noah Dingle and Amelia Spencer being the happy couple in the village, as Sam Dingle watched on leading to some harsh words with his son, Samson - his attitude is still making me angry! I do think trouble is ahead for Samson, just a gut feeling, but then it could be Sam.
As much as I love Laura Norton, Kerry Wyatt is annoying me. Loved a sassy Amelia with the home truths to Kerry.
However, Amelia who was quickly thrown centre stage mid episode as she went into labour, whilst making her way to Wylie's for her date with Noah. The way that the storm caught her, I was like oh! The panic on Amelia's face got me, you could see how terrified she was at the realisation to what was happening, the prep talk she gave herself. For me, it was the fact that she phoned her dad first said a lot about how scared she was actually feeling in that moment. As Amelia took shelter in a rundown barn allowing for some vulnerable scenes to take place. I just hope someone finds her in time.
Daisy Campbell is an incredible young actress throughout this storyline she has been brilliant, and I can't wait to see what's to come this week in particular.
With Kim and Harriet both out on the hunt for an in labour Amelia, it was Harriet who ended up hurt as the quad bike ended up on top of her with petrol leaking out. What an edge of your seat moment. While later, it was Kim who saw Harriet under the quad bike stopping to help, however, the quad ended up in flames following what seemed to be a lightning strike which saw Kim hit her head leaving both unconscious.
Also tonight, Liv Dingle was all emotional following Faith's death had me an emotional mess as it reminded me what I was like after my own Grandma's.
Cain Dingle showed lots of emotion following his mother's death, it was heartbreaking during his and Moira heartfelt chat - the dialogue was beautifully thought about due to the honesty. The vulnerability was beautiful to see from such a tough character.
Aaron was feeling down as he opened up much to Liv's shock.
Following tonight's opener to the special episodes, I personally can't wait for the drama to continue unfolding.
This special anniversary episode of Emmerdale aired tonight (Sunday 16th October) on ITV between 7pm - 8pm.
