EMMERDALE EPISODE REVIEW - FAITH AND LIV DINGLE'S FUNERAL

In tonight's episode (28th October), viewers to the Yorkshire based soap Emmerdale saw the joint funeral of Faith, and Liv Dingle who sadly died on screen within a week of each other. I always knew that I would find this episode hard to watch, but never did I expect to cry as much as I did.

Prior to the episode airing producer, Laura Shaw shared: "Having a scene featuring the entire adult cast was not something we had done before and given the funeral was taking place towards the end of our October 50th birthday month, it felt very right and fitting that we had the whole cast there to say goodbye."

Tonight's episode was written by Adam Sales, and directed by Vicky Thomas.

The moment that Faith and Liv Dingle's coffins were bought into the village over the bridge, then the camera panting to an emotional Vinny Dingle who wasn't ready (but then are we ever ready to say goodbye when I loved one has died?) But it was as the coffin headed to the church passing The Mill, the tears started.

Seeing Aaron Dingle hurting as much as he was as he looked at a photo of him and Liv had me emotional as both on and off screen they had a fabulous relationship.

As the funerals started, the villagers were full of sadness especially as many of the villagers knew both or were related, it was Gabby Thomas, Vinny and Aaron's face that got the tears started you could see some of them were real. Faith's appearance during Eric Pollard reading her eulogy which naturally gained a few laughs and even some tears. The honesty was beautiful and very much needed with the praise of her children, Chas and Cain Dingle.

However, it was as Aaron stood up to give his eulogy about his little sister full of regrets broke me as you could see a lot of hurt behind his eyes, leaving it Vinny to finish that was filled with heartfelt emotions thanks to the honesty in Adam's writing throughout the episode as well as making them the perfect dialogue for the characters. Vinny's words reminded me of how I felt at my Grandma's funeral.
The moment Amelia Spencer realised her boyfriend, Noah Dingle was struggling she reached out as well as to Gabby which was lovely to see. The close-up to the teens face all sombre.

As the families rallied around each other as Faith and Liv were placed in the hearse's leading to the villagers lining the street as Faith and Liv's coffins were escorted which was a poignant scene as Vinny looked up seeing the entire adult cast there with roses which were beautifully placed, mixed with the music from Frida Sundemo called We Are Dreamers. I was a wreck! The over head shot was beautiful.

The family elements throughout were beautiful from Kyle hugging his dad, Cain to Mandy Dingle supporting Vinny, however, 2 moments that got me were Charity Dingle pulling her granddaughter, Sarah in - I was gone who obvious how much Faith helped her, and you have to remember her past with cancer, and the moment between Charity, Mackenzie Boyd, Noah, and Sarah Dingle - the way they are there for one another in their time of need - powerful!
But I can't not mention how Cain saying how much he loved his mum in a rather bittersweet moment.

At Faith's wake, Bear was see telling everyone about what Faith had done for them, and creating her own drink was very Faith and utterly fantastic. With Vinny sat alone, and Mandy realising it's obvious it was all too much, but it was lovely to see Mandy coming up with an idea to give Liv her own wake with her friends seeing her best friend, Gabby along with Sarah, and Noah, Jacob Gallagher, Amelia, and her brother, Aaron at The Mill, and rightly so Gabby was right 'Liv, wouldn't want any of us to be alone today, especially you!' The memories of the videos they shared was fantastic was a great idea, Mandy - Liv's friends needed this!

But the Kerry Wyatt and Chloe Harris bombshell of Kerry being her mum even though I remember a few of us saying about this being a possibility having looked back at my tweets - I'm thinking this is going to be interesting to see how it unfolds! Jessie Elland and Laura Norton work really well in my opinion.

This episode of Emmerdale aired on Friday 28th October on ITV at 7.30pm.
