SOPHOMORE ALBUM REVIEW - MEGAN MORONEY - AM I OKAY?

Today (Friday 12th July), American singer-songwriter, Megan Moroney will be releasing her sophomore album, Am I Okay? which is made up of 14 tracks.

Opening Megan's sophomore album, Am I Okay? with her crisp vocal tone with heartfelt moments. Am I Okay is filled with one rather relatable moments as well as a being filled with vulnerability regarding relationships. The chorus is brilliant and filled with lots of fun. The second verse showcases the good sides of a relationship after a few terrible experiences and the shock that good ones exist. I personally enjoyed how the final verse is a lot softer naturally ending the song.

Up next is Third Times A Charm which begins with a soft instrumental complimenting Megan's soft vocal tones throughout. The song showcases some heartfelt moments along with some vulnerability of being hurt and being OK to open up about her previous experience. The chorus is beautiful with some brilliant storytelling and honesty. The second verse is my favourite as they accept the person for who and what they are! The final verse ties the song together brilliantly.

The soft guitar instrumental for No Caller ID works well with Megan's soft crisp vocal tone filled with vulnerability from the heartbreak as well as some purity with her songwriting especially within the first verse. The chorus is the part that I caught myself listening to carefully and appreciating those moments to reflect which some gorgeous tones which Megan delivered. The second verse is the part where you think you who's calling but at the same time you aren't convinced as you know you will just end up going backwards on your recovery, however, it's the final verse that is the best in my opinion as it's the part where you realise leaving your ex in the past is the best thing you could do! Megan's songwriting throughout No Caller ID is brilliant and you can hear so much hurt which made have made for a brilliant co-wrote with Jessi Alexandra, Connie Harrington, and Jessie Jo Dillon.

Once again an upbeat instrumental opens Man On The Moon with catchy lyrics that showcase Megan's upbeat tone giving fans an opportunity to hear a different side of Megan. The country feel of the chorus is brilliantly selected with her crisp tone. The final 2 verses are brilliantly put together allowing for the soft bridge to showcase the songwriting.

28th of June takes you on an emotional journey as relationship a break ups. The songwriting is beautiful and filled with a love that is heartfelt and pure allowing for Megan to have some brilliant stand out moments. The chorus is written in such a clever and emotional way that gives the listeners a chance to interpret the lyrics in a way that they want to into their own lives. There is something that is so inspirational about Megan's writing throughout 28th of June that is magical to listen too. Megan thank you for writing a song that for many had us in tears as I needed to hear the lyrics to be ready to move on, and thanks to this song I am!

The first verse of Indifferent sees Megan's crisp tone at the forefront allowing for a lot of vulnerability to be shown. You can hear a lot of her hurt which happened during the relationship break up allowing us listeners to realise a lot happened during their time together eg. a lot of hurt. The chorus continues to feature the heartbreak of the relationship and how you wish that person the best, but also wanting to move on myself. I love the sassiness from Megan as you can really hear how brilliant of a songwriter she is! The second verse is the part of the song where you try and move on, but still remember every single little detail. You get mix of emotion as your ex for the first time since breaking up and sometimes it brings out the worst in some of us. The electric guitar instrumental throughout is fantastic and adds a brilliant extra layer for Indifferent, especially for the final verse which is in a softer key going into the chorus wonderfully.

Beginning with a love story kind of feel, Noah takes you on a journey from liking each other to doing everything together which in turn has a sad chorus as it hits differently especially going into the second verse as that's the part where they move on and go their separate ways - making the chorus have a sentimental feel with a trip down memory lane. The final verse is rather sad as you went the best for that person, but you also wish you were with one another - he is thinking about you like you are them?

With upbeat instrumental, Miss Universe begins with a crisp soft vocal from Megan it's another relationship based song, but a little insecure as you are young and know life changes. The chorus is quirky and very soulful with heartfelt lyrics about realising his has moved on and you haven't, however, the second verse continues the song wonderfully. The end of the song sees him realising that he has in fact found his queen, but you continue to miss him and the memories you shared are what you are grateful for!

Beginning with a soft instrumental and soft vocal from Megan, Mama, I Lied brings up the mistakes we made growing up and all those little white lies we have all told. However, it's not long before the song turns into relationship based of being afraid to admit when someone hurts you making it a little sad. The second verse is the most emotional for me as you can hear the moment of realisation, and mixed with the powerful song-writing coming from experience made me shed a little tear especially as the final verse hit. Hearing the truth sometimes is hard!

I Know You has a sweet instrumental as the song opens up with talking about knowing that one person really well and despite their flaws - wanting to move on, but struggle as you want that one person. The chorus is cleverly written and Megan's crisp tone is great and brilliantly showcased throughout. The verses link together beautifully and the story flows well taking you on a journey through emotions. Sometimes moving on is the best thing you can do for everyone involved, even though it's the hardest thing you can do!

The Girls is a song of appreciation for your female friends that have been through whenever you them and wishing them the very best. The chorus is one of meaning reminded me of my 3 best female friends. The second verse has that night out/ catching up kind of vibes which is brilliant as it's like nothing has changed every single time you catch up. Love the upbeat third chorus and having one another's backs, whilst also being grateful for your relationships as let's be honest they always come up in the chat throughout the evening.

A standout track on this album is Heaven By Noon as it's a song of remembrance of that one person that went to Heaven too soon, I instantly thought of my Grandma who 5 years on next week, I miss every single day and hope I am making proud! The powerful lyrics on the second/ third line of the first verse broke me. The chorus is full of meaning and honesty, as well as a lot of hurt about the ways things have happened. However, the second verse full of those questions you ask in the days/ month's after as you learn to sadly adapt to life without them - honestly it's the hardest. There is something so magically stunning about Megan's vocal delivery and song-writing that is so special.

Beginning with a soft instrumental and crisp vocal Hope You're Happy is filled with many heartfelt lyrics that you can't help but feel the pain following the break up and those memories that come flooding back as you bump into their family members, and even though things didn't work out between you both - you still wish them the very best moving forward with the chorus highlighting this. The second verse is beautifully written and follows on fantastically allowing the listeners in. The lyrics throughout are beautifully crafted and it's a pleasure to hear this as you beginning adjusting to life without them.

Hell of a Show is a brilliant song to end Megan's sophomore album with as it features a guitar instrumental and soft vocal in what feels like a full circle moment. Megan is opening up about her musical journey, whilst trying to keep things together - you never know how much people are going through in their personal lives whilst remaining to be professional and give the audiences one hell of a show, so please remember to be kind to all artists!
The honesty throughout is very poignant as Megan wears her heart on her sleeve.
