EMMERDALE EPISODE REVIEW - RHONA AND MARLON'S WEDDING

Tonight's episode (11th August) of Emmerdale was warm and heartfelt for the wedding of Marlon Dingle and Rhona Goskirk.
Ahead of the wedding, the run up has been anything but plain sailing but with Emmerdale would you have it any other way?!

It was really lovely to see the old Marlon Dingle kind of return as he was back in The Woolpack kitchen helping Paddy Kirk to create his wedding cake - there was something so beautiful and sweet about this moment.

As the preparations got started for the big day it was fantastic to see what a special little bond April/ Rhona Goskirk have, and for me it was lovely to see how much of an involvement April had.

Would it be an Emmerdale wedding without a little bit of drama? The answer is no and it came in the form of Marlon collapsing leaving his best friend shocked, and calling an ambulance much to Marlon's horror. However, with Marlon still in hospital on his wedding day - the preparations continue in the village with no one aware at this time.

Back at the hospital, Marlon and Paddy did their very best to lower his blood pressure, Rhona walked down the stairs at Vanessa's - this moment was beautiful and you could feel so much emotion.

As the guests start to arrive, greeted by Charles Anderson, Vanessa is stressed after discovering about Marlon being in hospital. Rhona, Vanessa, and April arrive all looking fabulous it's not long before Rhona questioned Vanessa about her groom as he and Paddy race to the church. However, there was a huge shock for Rhona as Marlon stood up and walked down the aisle, the music/ slow motion was fantastic, and yes, I was a blabbering mess, was anyone else? It was such a beautiful moment to witness.

As Marlon and Rhona share their vows to one another in a moving yet beautiful way which Leo and April delivered - it was lovely to see how involved both the children were. The cheers said it all!

In The Woolpack, we saw Rhona and Marlon arrive to the loudest of cheers, and of course no Dingle wedding reception is without it's drama. Paddy's speech was one that was full of laughs and one that was kept short and sweet. But when Marlon took the microphone for his speech, it was another emotional moment that I once again cried at - all this emotion is making me an absolute mess. Rhona was very emotional with her speech as well which was sweet with the thank you's - you could see how much she spent everything would see said.

Another key moment as the guests continued to celebrate was when Priya Sharma took off her jacket and show of her scars it was a wonderful moment, and one that highlighted a lot especially as you could see how much Priya and Marlon respect on another. With Faith starting to struggle, but it was lovely to see Cain and Faith shared a dance seeing Chas smile as she walked in. It really was fantastic to see Cain and Faith sharing a dance especially as we know their journey to where they are today. The conga was one of my favourite scenes so very Dingle.

The final scene of the episode with Marlon and Rhona laying side by side was beautiful especially with the beautifully timed camera angles changes throughout.

One thing that Emmerdale did really well this week was the use of Marlon and Paddy's friendship that saw both the characters lean on each other multiple times, but it was in Thursday's episode that saw the biggest use of this. Dominic Brunt and Mark Charnock work beautifully well together.

Zoe Henry and Mark Charnock - thank you for everything you have done during this storyline, and especially with your portrayals tonight because there is something so special about the characters and the love they have for one another - and I can't wait for what's to come for the characters as they both show how well they support one another through the good and bad times.

Caroline Mitchell, thank you for writing such a beautiful script that captures a lot of emotions.
John Anderson, your direction on this episode was wonderfully thought about.

The Emmerdale wedding Marlon and Rhona aired tonight (Thursday 11th August) at 7.30pm for an hour long episode on ITV.
