Good morning, Kate. How are you today?
I’m wonderful, thank you.
That's wonderful to hear. Thank you so much for agreeing to this interview with me.
Absolutely, I’m grateful for the opportunity.
Before, we can any further can I please ask you to introduce yourselves to our readers?
Hello everyone! I’m Kate Boytek, a singer/songwriter from southern West Virginia.
Now, can I please ask you a few questions for our readers to get to know you a little better?
Yes.
How old were you were you decided to start writing and performing your own songs?
I sang at my very first talent competition when I was around 5 years old and from there continued County talent shows until I reached 14 years old, at that time I was working with a band and we began booking shows. By the time I was 22 years old, I had a pretty steady show schedule and began exploring writing at that time.
This is a really inspiring story to the start of your journey that I have to say I think will inspire many up and coming singer/songwriters.
What is your favourite country song and who is your favourite country artist (can be more than one)?
There are so many I could name. I don’t have just one favorite artist or song, but my top choices would be Willie Nelson, Faith Hill, Kenny Chesney, Morgan Wallen, Kelsea Ballerini, Vince Gill, Patty Loveless and the list goes on and on. One of my favorite songs currently playing on the radio would be “Sand in my boots” by Morgan Wallen. That has definitely been on repeat for awhile for me.
That a range of artists you have chosen, every single one of those artists are amazing.
This is a tough one, but I'm going to ask it anyway what is the most inspirational song you have ever heard?
That is a tough question. One of the most inspirational songs I’ve heard would be “you raise me up” by Josh Grobin.
I am glad it was a question that got you thinking as it's one that many struggle to answer - You Raise Me Up is a wonderful song.
I love asking this question in our interviews but how would you describe yourself in 3 words?
That’s a tough question. I don’t normally describe myself haha I’m going to go with... Honest, Kind, and Dedicated.
I have to admit from what I have seen within this interview so far, and I am sure it will continue as we continue to talk.
Now to talk about your latest single, Til The Whiskey Runs Dry - can you please tell us the story/ inspiration behind the song?
Yes, I’d love to. My mom is the writer of “Til the whiskey runs dry”. She wrote the song for her younger brother that passed away when I was in my senior year of high school. She said it was late one night and she was awake thinking of her brother, missing him, and the song came to her. The song is written and dedicated to his memory.
Well in that case, I have to give your mum a special shout-out for her incredible song, and the songwriting is stunning. I can't even imagine how hard it must have been for her to wrote a song about such a special and raw experience - I'm emotional just hearing about the reason behind the song. *sorry for the tears*
What was the writing session like for this single?
Well, since my mom wrote the entire song, we didn’t have to have a session- just skipped straight to learning how to sing it.
How emotional that must have been for you both to share.
How did you find the recording process for Til The Whiskey Runs Dry?
Wonderful! I love being in the studio, so anytime I get to record I’m extremely happy about it. This song was very special to record because of the meaning behind it, I’m glad we were able to all work together and bring it life.
I am really glad it was an extremely special moment for you because from what you have told me it deserved to be, and I am glad you were able to bring it to life.
With the writing and recording of the song, was it everything you hoped it would be?
Yes, I’ve been blessed throughout my career to work with incredible musicians and this was no exception, everything we smooth and came out exactly as we had hoped.
Til The Whiskey Runs Dry deserved to be everything and more.
How would you sum up your single, Til The Whiskey Runs Dry in 3 words?
Emotional, heartfelt, and relatable.
I couldn't have summed it up anyone perfectly.
Before I let you go and with us being a UK site, would you ever come over here and perform for the UK Country Music fans?
Absolutely! I would love that and hope to one day have that opportunity. I appreciate each of you for your support. Connecting with you through music is why I do this, to share a part of who I am with you in my lyrics. All in hopes, you can connect and relate on some level, in hopes of bringing you peace or joy or whatever you may need at that time, through each song.
Thank you so much for your time today, Kate - it's been an absolute pleasure.
