FULL STUDIO ALBUM REVIEW - ERIC PASLAY - NICE GUY

This Friday (14th August) will see US singer-songwriter, Eric Paslay release his brand new full studio album, Nice Guy.
Eric co-wrote all the songs featured on this album expect for I Took A Pill In Ibiza which is Mike Posner.

Heartbeat Higher feat Sarah Buxton starts with an guitar instrumental which I have to admit sat the song up wonderfully. The first verse sees Eric's crisp vocals being demonstrated which happens to allow the lyrics to shine through right through which I loved so much about this verse. The lyrics are so catchy. The moment Sarah Buxton came in ahead of the chorus was mind blowing, and their vocal blend so well together. The chorus features some wonderful lyrics which are just perfect, and with Sarah's vocals added to the song it was amazing! The second verse of Heartbeat Higher sees Eric continue with lead vocals however, Sarah was seen to be singing a few lines giving the song a little more energy, which I happened to adore a lot! The final verse which is nearer the chorus, I was amazed as their harmonies, and vocal arrangement was just mind blowing the more the song went on. The division of the lines throughout Heartbeat Higher is incredible.

Boat In A Bottle
starts with an soft piano instrumental. The first verse sees Eric's meaningful vocals being demonstrated right from the off in the most wonderful way as it allows us the listeners time to get a real feel for the lyrics. The chorus features some meaningful lyrics that are always super catchy that makes you think about many fun times we have had in our lives. This summer is the perfect summer sounding song. The second verse continues Boat In A Bottle beautifully as the lyrics within the song continue to tell a wonderful story about being in this together, and looking to the good times. The bridge of Boat In A Bottle is beautiful as it has the most beautiful lyrics being repeated giving such a party happy feeling as the song heads into it's final chorus. Boat In A Bottle is a fabulous song to have on this album with.

I Took A Pill In Ibiza starts with a soft sounding multi instrument instrumental. The first verse sees Eric's start this cover of a Mike Posner song wonderfully with his softer vocals which bought back so many incredible memories that I have from this song anyway so thank you, Eric. I love how Eric is taking this classic song (or at least it is to me) and making it his own, and not trying to be like the original which I think is why I love it so much more. The chorus had me singing along whilst adoring Eric's soft vocals as the song continue and you can hear very clearly Eric's interruption of the lyrics which is just wonderfully - adore when artists feel so confident to be able to do this. The second verse sees Eric continue I Took A Pill In Ibiza beautifully as the instrumental gives so much life to the song complimenting Eric's vocals really well. The bridge of I Took A Pill In Ibiza is beautifully soften in a way I wasn't expecting - so I am very appreciative of Eric's version especially with all the extra detail given. The final chorus of I Took A Pill In Ibiza is beautifully softened, however it has moments of Eric's higher vocals being demonstrated.

Off The Edge of Summer starts with a many instrumental start to the song which gives so much to the song instantly ahead of Eric's wonderfully husky vocal. The first verse of the song sees Eric's husky vocal shine through as he demonstrates his wonderful vocal tones. The lyrics give off this really summery and upbeat vibe which I happen to love a lot throughout this song. The chorus features a female vocal in the backing which gives the song another dynamic which is wonderful, and so unexpected but one that works fantastically. The second verse continues Off The Edge of Summer wonderfully in a rather magical way that bought a smile to my face especially as the chorus started again which a very different vocal tone from the first chorus. The final verse of Off The Edge of Summer sees a much softer vocal from Eric which is rather beautiful once again going into the chorus the duet was on fire with the fiery vocals.

Just Once starts with an upbeat instrumental which I adored as soon as it started as I thought yes this is so Eric's original style. The first verse sees Eric's fantastic upbeat vocal at the forefront whilst remaining extremely true to his roots, and meaningful lyrics which I couldn't help but love a lot. The chorus features beautifully heartfelt lyrics that a lot of people will be able to relate with, that is something rather special. The second verse continues Just Once with Eric's softer vocal tone which adds another fantastic dynamic to this song along with the softer lyrical delivery. The final verse of Just Once was a little slower than the rest of the song but one that worked brilliantly especially as the upbeat in the chorus continued. The lyrics throughout Just Once are rather special, and beautiful. Listen to this song with an open heart, and mind.

Nice Guy starts with a very dreamy, and soft sounding instrumental which I instantly feel in love with right from the start. The first verse of Nice Guy sees Eric's huskier meaningful softer vocals at the forefront of this verse which allows the lyrics to shine through in it's most natural way but also a very funky way. The chorus features some upbeat, and happy lyrics that are very catchy making you want to get up and dance many times throughout the chorus. The second verse continues Nice Guy in a fabulous way as it continues the songs meaning so beautifully thanks to Eric's soft, but at times huskier vocal. The final verse of  Nice Guy is just the perfect verse ahead of the songs final chorus. Nice Guy features some beautiful lyrics that will made a lot of you smile as it did me.

Under Your Spell starts with a funky upbeat guitar instrumental which I have to admit gives off this really summery, and happy vibe which I wasn't expecting but I love. The first verse sees Eric's upbeat vocal with his happier vocal range which allows us listeners to hear a very different side to who Eric is as an artist with the happier lyrics. The chorus features some wonderfully catchy lyrics that make me want to get up and dance too. The meaning of the song is very different to what I expected but I love that I am surprised throughout. The second verse continues Under Your Spell magically with the meaning of the song continuing to surprise me as I think it will with a lot of other people. The lyrics continue to leave you guessing about the whole idea of the song which is something I love. The instrumental in the middle of the song is just perfectly timed as are Eric's vocals within this section of the song. The final verse of Under Your Spell is a little softer allowing the lyrics to shine through as it comes into the final chorus.

Fingertips starts with a wonderful guitar instrumental which gives the song really feelings before hearing any vocals from Eric. The first verse sees Eric's softer, heartfelt vocal which is wonderful with it's meaningful lyrics being demonstrated within the message of the song which is rather sweet, and dreamy about never giving up on your dreams. The chorus features some extremely meaningful, and personal lyrics about never giving up on your dreams which are rather inspiring and for me rather personal, and meaningful. The second verse continues Fingertips beautifully, and you hear a real side of happiness within the song that has me a little teary because we all want that happy ever after. The lyrics are telling one wonderful story, but one everyone is on - good or bad. The final verse of Fingertips is fantastic as it brings the true meaning of the song to it's head thanks to Eric's soft vocals giving the song another side of it's meaning.

Wild and Young starts once again with a guitar instrumental which gives a real soft feel for the song ahead. The first verse sees Eric's soft, and slow vocal tone at the forefront of Wild and Young which is rather sweet, whilst also being beautiful with it's slower, and softer sounding lyrical delivery. The chorus features some extremely special, and soft vocals that I couldn't help but feel a little emotional over. The second verse continues Wild and Young in a very different way than the first verse with the lyrics being at the forefront of the song with it's emotional sound that gets you thinking to every single lyric being sung. The final verse of Wild and Young sees Eric's husky vocal range come through but remaining a little softer too - the perfect blend. Wild and Young ends with the chorus which is the perfect move for me.

Endless Summer Dream starts with a very different kind of vibe that I was expecting thanks to the upbeat instrumental. The first verse sees Eric's husky vocals at the forefront of this song as the lyrics are much more upbeat whilst remaining heartfelt at times too that I loved. The chorus features some incredible, and wonderful catchy lyrics which are very summery and dreamy which is perfect for the title of the song. The second verse continues Endless Summer Dream in a wonderful way with it's wonderful upbeat vibe continuing with the lyrics remaining upbeat, and taking us listeners on a journey with the song. Endless Sumer Dream is a song which gets you thinking, and dreaming about summer especially in the final verse into the final chorus ending the song in a fabulous way. One song, I am very excited to hear live.

On This Side of Heaven starts with an electric guitar instrumental which instantly adds another layer to the song, whilst also leaving us wanting more as listeners. The first verse sees Eric's softer vocal range be shown with heartfelt lyrics that you can just tell Eric has written from a place of hurt, or experience - songs like this for me are just magical. The chorus allows the meaningful lyrics to continue with its important message, whilst giving the lyrics the time they need to shine. On This Side of Heaven is one beautifully written song that will help people a lot in many different ways. The second verse continues On This Side of Heaven fantastically with Eric's softer vocal range continuing to allow the song to grow which was just fantastic to listen too. The final bridge into the chorus of On This Side of Heaven sees Eric's higher vocal range arriving giving On This Side of Heaven a lot more energy, whilst also giving an emotional performance.

Woman Like Her starts with a soft drum, and guitar instrumental which I like as it allows the song a beautifully introduction. The first verse sees Eric's meaningful vocals come across beautifully thanks to Eric's crispy tone which allows the songwriting to come through wonderfully into the chorus. The chorus features some wonderfully heartfelt lyrics that you can hear have a lot of meaning to Eric. I love the vocal chance from Eric giving the song another dynamic that is beautiful. The second verse continues Woman Like Her rather beautifully and processes the song in a very natural way that made me smile. I love the story in which the lyrics of the song gives away. The final verse of Woman Like Her sees Eric's higher vocal range which I just love adding another kind of feel to the song. Woman Like Her ending with the chorus is rather special as it brings the song to it's most natural end.
