EMMERDALE EPISODE REVIEW - LIV WAS RELEASED AS CHARITY SUPPORTED HER SON, RYAN THROUGH HIS GRIEF

During this week’s episodes viewers saw that Charity Dingle got through a mixture of emotions with both her son, Ryan Stocks and her man, Mackenzie Boyd as Liv Flaherty was also released from prison and reunited with Vinny Dingle seeing them get back together.

The week started with Chas Dingle all emotional as the auction sign went up on The Woolpack, whilst at Butlers’ Cain Dingle was seen to be mopping about after he let his sister down but Moira Barton’s words to Cain were needed – we all know Cain only wanted to protect his sister. Chas later visited her daughter, Grace’s garden where she got upset.

It’s an emotional week for Ryan Stocks as he was seen ignoring calls which saw him later receive the news that his adoptive mother, Irene has died the look on his face said a lot making me emotional. Ryan opened up to Mackenzie about Irene’s death which led to Mackenzie opening up too. As Ryan looked at photos of him and Irene on his phone as he and Mackenzie spoke - I love the way that Mackenzie was determined to be there for his friend. It’s not long before Charity was in the dog house for ignoring Ryan and Mackenzie’s phone calls. Charity was disheartened as Ryan and Mackenzie ignore her phone calls leading to Mackenzie telling Charity about Irene’s death leaving Charity devastated as she went off to be with her son.
A heartfelt moment between Ryan and Charity as he opened up about his mum’s death, this is the side of Charity I enjoy witnessing. Charity was left devastated as Ryan told her that Mackenzie has been there for him. Charity was left rather upset as Ryan told her that she isn’t his mother in anger.
Charity was devastated to learn that Ryan had blocked her. Ryan’s hurting. Dawn Taylor took flowers around for Ryan as Mackenzie was feeling a little sorry for himself as Dawn tried to help him leading to Mackenzie opening up to Dawn which led to her also opening up about her own journey. Dawn could be seen urging Mackenzie to speak to Charity. Dawn continued to help Mackenzie sort things out with Charity, but instead he kissed Dawn in front of her leaving Charity devastated.
Later in the week, Charity goes to see Ryan, but ended up talking to Mack. The caring side of Charity is wonderful to see as this side isn’t one we see often. Ryan needing Charity as much as he needs her. Later in the week, Ryan goes to see Charity where he wears his heart on his sleeve as Charity agrees to read Irene’s eulogy he’d written. Charity’s then seen opening up to her son. Mackenzie decided to see Charity following her message leading to them having a chat and got back together.
At the end of the week, Charity and Mackenzie support Ryan at Irene’s funeral you could see how much this meant to her. Arriving back from the funeral Ryan was in an emotional state, but Charity being there for her son was wonderful. Emma Atkins is one fabulous actress.
James Moore, you have been amazing this week thank you showing us what a fantastic actor you are!

It’s also the week that Vinny Dingle is determined to help Liv Flaherty and get her out of prison once and for all. It all started as DS Rogers arrived at the hospital to take Manpreet Sharma’s statement where she told them what she knew. Monday’s episode saw DS Rogers arrive to tell Vinny that Liv won’t be getting released; Vinny was frustrated by this news. Lydia Dingle knew that somethings up with Vinny as it’s obvious he was disheartened as Lydia listened. Vinny just wants to do right by Liv, and that’s understandable after everything. Vinny decided to go to the hospital visiting Manpreet, the honesty and emotions saw a vulnerable Vinny, but the way that he just asked Manpreet to change her statement showed the determination was there, and I get why Charles Anderson wanted to protect Manpreet.
Tuesday’s episode also saw the police arrive at the B&B to once again check Meena Julta’s room.
During Wednesday’s episode, Mandy Dingle and Lydia talk as Vinny’s excited that everyone knows that Liv is innocent; he just wants Liv back. Liv was in her cell when an officer comes and informed her that her solicitor was waiting. Liv being confused and worried about not getting her visit with Vinny, however, she did get her visit and Vinny’s thrilled as Liv told him the very good news. The happiness between them was wonderful to see, although Liv just wanted her half-brother, Aaron Dingle to be there. I liked how Mandy, Lydia and Vinny are all happy dancing around the living room, leading to Mandy worrying what the new evidence could be, as Chas broke with the news that Aaron wasn’t coming. The news of Liv’s hearing is all around the village.
During Thursday’s first episode, Mandy goes downstairs upon hearing someone to discover Vinny awake worrying about what’s happening with Liv and her hearing. Mandy only wants to protect you, Vinny. Vinny really needs Liv as much as she needs him and the more scenes the more apparent that became. I really enjoyed this scene – Lisa Riley and Bradley Johnson need more scenes of just them together. Liv was then seen packing her bags looking at a photo of her and Aaron as her cell-mate, Mel walked in leaving Liv taken aback. Mel’s words weren’t needed on a day like that. Back at Wishing Well, Mandy, Lydia and Sam talk as Vinny was nervous ahead of the hearing. Vinny wanting to go on his own as Mandy wanted to be there for her son. Upon arriving at the court, an emotional Vinny was reunited with Liv. Liv just wanting to see Aaron and will do anything to see him. Vinny lying is just hurting her but I can 100% see why he did it! As Chas, Mandy, Lydia, Sam and Zak Dingle all await for Liv to arrive home, Vinny later called to say that she had stormed off hurt. Upon arriving back to the village with a bottle of water in hand which Vinny thought was alcohol blaming himself for everything, Liv struggles and needs answers. The honesty from Vinny allowing for the pair to have a heart-to-heart as Liv kissed Vinny, leading to Liv’s words seeing Vinny kiss her back. I actually think that Liv has turned a corner but with Vinny’s support I think she’ll get there.
Friday’s episode saw Faith and Chas Dingle talking about Liv as she walked down the stairs in a rather happy mood. Vinny went to see Liv really like seeing them happy – the characters deserve it! As Vinny called round to The Mill, the young pair enjoyed spending time with one another as Liv asked Vinny to move back in. The way that Vinny decided it was time to tell Mandy about them being back together was sweet – the moment they told Mandy you could see that she’s worried but that’s understandable.

I have to admit, I have loved Charity and Vanessa Hardwick’s scenes especially as we saw another side to their characters when an apology was shared between the pair in Monday’s episode was very much needed. I love how honest of Vanessa being with Charity throughout this week’s episodes. I like the way that the writers haven’t left them on bad terms. Michelle Hardwick and Emma Atkins work wonderfully together, I am glad Michelle is back.

Also this week, Belle Dingle and Ellis Chapman spend a lot of time together with secret meet ups.
Charles was there for Manpreet following her ordeal, and giving the police her statement. Manpreet agreed to give things another go with Charles as she was seen returning to the village and moved in with Charles. Manpreet faced some tough questions from Priya Sharma. It’s not Manpreet’s fault, people need to return that she is a victim too.
Dawn told her fiancé, Billy Fletcher about how Mackenzie kissed her in a bid to make Charity jealous. Dawn and Billy set a date for their wedding as Meena Julta was spotted planning her next move as she saw a save the date for Billy and Dawn’s wedding – Billy and Dawn are all excited about their wedding plans as Charles agreed to marry them.
Jacob Gallagher and Leyla Cavanagh told about Liv as Liam Cavanagh told them that the police at packing up the investigation van. Jacob lashed out at Vinny, can understand with all the hurt. Jacob let his anger out thanks to Leyla’s suggestion.
David Metcalfe and Victoria Barton arrived back in the village much to Jacob’s surprise.

These Emmerdale scenes aired between Monday 24th – Friday 28th January on ITV.
