EP REVIEW - LAURA EVANS - RUNNING BACK TO YOU

This Friday (31st July) will see Welsh singer-songwriter, Laura Evans release her brand new EP, Running Back To You.
Running Back To You features 5 songs.

Drag Me Back In starts straight in with the first verse with a little instrumental which compliments Laura's vocal one wonderfully. The first verse sees Laura's upbeat vocals being demonstrated with a rocker side from the vocals being given which I have to admit, I like a lot - as it shows us all another side of Laura. The lyrics are ones of fun, and whilst being super catchy. The chorus of Drag Me Back In features some wonderfully rocky but heartfelt vocals as you get a real feel for the song, and it's meaning which I have to admit I find very different, but one I am very much looking forward to hearing live once we can get back to live music. I love hearing sassy Laura! The second verse continues Drag Me Back In fantastically as Laura's vocal range changes, and it adds another fabulous layer to the song. There is something about Laura's songwriting that I love so much, and I can't wait to hear this song live the more, and more I hear it! The bridge of uh-oh's is just something that is very special, and adds so much to Drag Me Back In. I am imaging a lot of crowd participation on this part when we get to hear it live. Drag Me Back In ending with the chorus is honestly the most wonderful thing about this song as everything about this ending is beautiful.

Running Back To You starts with a quirky feeling jazzy kind of instrumental to start which for me is something that sets the song off wonderfully. The first verse sees Laura's softer but funkier kind of vocals come through with the catchiness of the lyrics being able to come through, too. There is something so magically beautiful about this song that is so very Laura and demonstrates exactly who Laura is as an artist. The storytelling throughout the song within the lyrics is just beautiful especially heading into the chorus. The chorus ties Running Back To You together incredibly well allowing the listeners to get a real feel for Laura's incredible vocal tones which are beautifully demonstrated on this song. The lyrics are beautifully thought about placed into the chrous fantastically alongside the rest of the song. The second verse continues Running Back To You beautifully with Laura's softer vocals with the next stage of the song and the relationship being sung about in the song has been wonderfully done in my opinion. The time I heard the second chrous, I was singing along thanks to the catchiness of the chorus - I can't wait to hear this song performed live. The instrumental which followed was nothing but amazing as it broke the song up fantastically adding another dynamic to Running Back To You. The final verse sees Laura's softer vocal continue which was breathtaking as it shows the versatility of her vocal ending Running Back To You in the most perfect way.

Mess of Me starts with an piano instrumental which I have admit gives me Evanescence vibes right from the right (this is a good thing!). The first verse sees Laura's crisp soft vocal tone start the song off fantastically as it allows us listeners the time to hear every single lyric that Laura is singing. Laura's songwriting ability during this song is nothing but amazing. The chorus features some incredibly beautifully heartfelt lyrics that I caught myself getting emotional over as I caught myself relating to many of them, especially thanks to Laura's vocal range which is nothing but stunning as the chorus continued. The second verse continues Mess of Me beautifully as the heartfelt emotional lyrics continued giving listeners another wonderful chance to hear Laura's many vocal tones, and songwriting. I have nothing but praise for Laura the more I listen to this song. The way that the chorus links all 3 verses of Mess of Me incredibly well together tying it together beautifully. The final verse of Mess of Me is the part of the song that us listeners get to hear this incredibly strong vocal from Laura which is blended with her softer vocal at times too. Mess of Me ending with the chorus is something that brings the song to it's most beautiful end especially as the piano instrumental ends the song.

Take Me Back Home (Aberdare) starts with a very upbeat instrumental which has Laura's strong vocal in right from the start. The first verse starts Take Me Back Home (Aberdare) straight away which sees Laura's heart warming vocals at the forefront of the song which her crisp country vocals. The lyrics of this verse are ones that are heart warming, and very Laura. The chorus of Take Me Back Home (Aberdare) features some beautiful lyrics that just roll off your tongue which are my favourite kind of lyrics if I am 100% honest. I adore the fact that Laura has written a song about where she is from because all of the emotion within the lyrics are one that a lot of people will be able to relate with. The second verse continues Take Me Back Home (Aberdare) beautifully with all the homely feels which you get from the lyrics especially as Laura is looking forward to the future in her hometown. Your hometown is the place that built you, and the place that you will always be thankful for whether it's good or bad experiences. The final verse of Take Me Back Home (Aberdare) sees Laura's higher vocal range appear which is just wonderfully beautiful to hear. There is something so beautifully magical about this song that I can't quiet explain.

Running Back To You (acoustic) the only difference from the first version of this song is the fact that Laura's vocals are a little more relaxed, and you can hear a little more of Laura's heartfelt vocal which compliment her vocal range a little more.
