EP REVIEW - ERIC PASLAY - HEARTBEAT HIGHER
This Friday (3rd July) will see US singer-songwriter, Eric Paslay release his brand new EP, Heartbeat Higher.
Eric co-wrote 3 of the songs featured on the EP minus I Took A Pill In Ibiza which is Mike Posner.
Heartbeat Higher feat Sarah Buxton starts with an guitar instrumental which I have to admit sat the song up wonderfully. The first verse sees Eric's crisp vocals being demonstrated which happens to allow the lyrics to shine through right through which I loved so much about this verse. The lyrics are so catchy. The moment Sarah Buxton came in ahead of the chorus was mind blowing, and their vocal blend so well together. The chorus features some wonderful lyrics which are just perfect, and with Sarah's vocals added to the song it was amazing! The second verse of Heartbeat Higher sees Eric continue with lead vocals however, Sarah was seen to be singing a few lines giving the song a little more energy, which I happened to adore a lot! The final verse which is nearer the chorus, I was amazed as their harmonies, and vocal arrangement was just mind blowing the more the song went on. The division of the lines throughout Heartbeat Higher is incredible.
On This Side of Heaven starts with an electric guitar instrumental which instantly adds another layer to the song, whilst also leaving us wanting more as listeners. The first verse sees Eric's softer vocal range be shown with heartfelt lyrics that you can just tell Eric has written from a place of hurt, or experience - songs like this for me are just magical. The chorus allows the meaningful lyrics to continue with its important message, whilst giving the lyrics the time they need to shine. On This Side of Heaven is one beautifully written song that will help people a lot in many different ways. The second verse continues On This Side of Heaven fantastically with Eric's softer vocal range continuing to allow the song to grow which was just fantastic to listen too. The final bridge into the chorus of On This Side of Heaven sees Eric's higher vocal range arriving giving On This Side of Heaven a lot more energy, whilst also giving an emotional performance.
I Took A Pill In Ibiza starts with a soft sounding multi instrument instrumental. The first verse sees Eric's start this cover of a Mike Posner song wonderfully with his softer vocals which bought back so many incredible memories that I have from this song anyway so thank you, Eric. I love how Eric is taking this classic song (or at least it is to me) and making it his own, and not trying to be like the original which I think is why I love it so much more. The chorus had me singing along whilst adoring Eric's soft vocals as the song continue and you can hear very clearly Eric's interruption of the lyrics which is just wonderfully - adore when artists feel so confident to be able to do this. The second verse sees Eric continue I Took A Pill In Ibiza beautifully as the instrumental gives so much life to the song complimenting Eric's vocals really well. The bridge of I Took A Pill In Ibiza is beautifully soften in a way I wasn't expecting - so I am very appreciative of Eric's version especially with all the extra detail given. The final chorus of I Took A Pill In Ibiza is beautifully softened, however it has moments of Eric's higher vocals being demonstrated.
Boat In A Bottle starts with an soft piano instrumental. The first verse sees Eric's meaningful vocals being demonstrated right from the off in the most wonderful way as it allows us the listeners time to get a real feel for the lyrics. The chorus features some meaningful lyrics that are always super catchy that makes you think about many fun times we have had in our lives. This summer is the perfect summer sounding song. The second verse continues Boat In A Bottle beautifully as the lyrics within the song continue to tell a wonderful story about being in this together, and looking to the good times. The bridge of Boat In A Bottle is beautiful as it has the most beautiful lyrics being repeated giving such a party happy feeling as the song heads into it's final chorus.
Boat In A Bottle is a fabulous song to end this EP with.
