CORONATION STREET EPISODE REVIEW - WHO KILLED JOEL DEERING REVEALED
During tonight's episode (15th November), Coronation Street viewers were treated to an exciting series of flashbacks from the night that Joel Deering was murdered, with the killer being revealed at the end.
Following Wednesday's cliff-hanger (13th November) of Max Turner in his cell saying 'what have you done?' with tonight's episode beginning with a shot of Max being interviewed with close up of the suspect characters and their motives which were cleverly delivered to us viewers - the way Max was wanting to protect Lauren Bolton was obvious, however the fact that Lauren thought Max was going to do something said a lot.
I liked how Coronation Street decided to deliver each character's part of the story in between PC Kit Green's police interview with each of the suspects which is very cleverly achieved as it left us viewers thinking that it could have been any of them right up until the moment it was revealed.

The camera angles, the dialogue, the weapons and every little detail that has been aired have been all in play, but the music has been brilliant. How the character's storyline and background with Joel Deering during the flashbacks are something very clever to have been included making all the flashbacks make even more sense now especially as I really didn't believe DS Swain at one point.
However, it was the second part that I realised even more that it was going to Lauren after she looked at the tracker app which saw her tell Max she found Joel which saw Max continue to protect Lauren telling her to stay at home, whilst he went to find him. Following Max finding Joel's letter leading to him going to the viaduct which Joel grabbed Max seeing him acting in self-defence before Lauren dealt the final blow that killed him.
The aftermath was the most devastating as the panic in Lauren's voice was of sheer panic as all Max has ever wanted to do was protect her, but the shot back to his police interview with his head down saw Kit ask Max some questions to catch him out as his determined shone through. Although, it was the way that the flashbacks saw Lauren think about Frankie and his future whilst, Max actually thought he'd get away with it was naive but also admirable as he really does love Lauren seeing him get charged for Joel's murder.
When Craig Tinker broke the news to David Platt about Max's arrest was shocking as I wasn't expecting him to have been told until Monday's episode, but the way David was asking DS Swain for help is brilliant, however, David bringing up Lauren's past was a step too far.
The final scene broke me with Lauren reading Max's letter and his words - I was a sobbing mess I won't lie! Max loves Lauren so much that it makes for a great soap love story.

Viewers learnt that Lauren Bolton was the one who delivered the final blow to Joel in some shocking scenes. As sad as I was for the killer to be Lauren, I can honestly see why they did what they did as all she has been to protect them self and her child that even though it wasn't the twist I wanted, it was the twist I was expecting, but I am glad for the full circle moment as it allows for kind of closure. The only thing now is that I am worried for what the future holds and Cait Fitton's journey on the show as she is one of the best actresses the show has had in an extremely long time in my opinion! However, I do think there is a chance Lauren will be forgiven by the viewers, and maybe by some of the residents knowing what the character has been through in turn allowing for Lauren/ Cait's journey on the show to continue.
There is something so wonderful about the episode and it's delivery that made me very happy, and proud to be a Coronation Street with every single detail being delivered with such grace.
Also, I have nothing but praise for the writing from Ella Greenhill who wrote such a wonderful episode, and delivered brilliantly by Duncan Foster especially during the reveal it's the attention to detail.
Please someone give Cait Fitton, Paddy Bever, Channique Sterling-Brown and of course Calum Lill an award for their involvement in this storyline as they really have been fantastic throughout and this storyline has just been brilliant to watch.
This episode of Coronation Street aired on Friday 15th November at 8pm on ITV and ITVX.
