ALBUM REVIEW - SCOTTY McCREERY - RISE AND FALL

This Friday (10th May), American singer-songwriter, Scotty McCreery releases his brand new album, Rise and Fall which is made up of  13 tracks.

Rise and Fall begins with Little More Gone which begins with an upbeat instrumental allowing for Scotty to open the first verse with his rocky tone which is very different to what I expected, but something I loved as it allowed for the songwriting to come through especially heading into the chorus. The chorus is filled with some extremely catchy lyrics heading into the second verse brilliantly. This song reminds me of Scotty during his time on American Idol and the reason why I started following his career in the first place.

Cab In A Solo was the perfect song to kick off this new era of Scotty McCreery music. The soft instrumental is good throughout as it supports all of it's lyrics. The first verse is a little emotional as it talks about a relationship that isn't working out the way you hope/ had hoped to wanting to get it back on track, however, in the chorus you hear a sad turn despite the catchy lyrics. The emotion grows as the song continues which I have to admit I got rather emotional over. Great songwriting, Scotty! Thank you for the 2000's country feel.

The third offering from Scotty in his crisp tone, Lonely is filled with a country feel reminding me of why I love this genre of music. The soft tone in the first verse blends wonderfully with his crisp vocal heading into the chorus that is filled with warm feel despite the lyrics being a little sad as he manages his friends (reminded me of a situation I went through after leaving high school). The second verse sees a warm family feel come to light bringing the song to a new meaning which was lovely to hear. There is something about the final chorus that brings a different meaning to the song as a whole. The last minute of the Lonely is an instrumental that was brilliant.

Can't Pass A Bar with a rockier sound due to the uptempo nature of the song. All three verses of the song are brilliantly linked and when the chorus comes in you can hear what a brilliant singer-songwriter Scotty is and how much he has changed. The fiddle instrumental break up is great whilst unexpected. I love that Scotty has returned to his country roots with this song as you can hear the new era of Scotty within his music as throughout Can't Pass A Bar you can hear exactly what he wants thanks to the 1990's country feels.

The guitar instrumental opens Hey Rose wonderfully with the heartfelt lyrics in a soft crisp tone from Scotty being filled with love that allowing for Scotty to show everyone his softer side. The chorus is brilliantly written and songs that allow the listeners to paint their own picture to the lyrics are great ones which allow for many different perspectives of the song come to light. The second verse is one of those verses that can have two different meanings as it depends how you interpret the lyrics. Hey Rose allows the listeners to hear what a wonderful person Scotty is as husband through this wonderful songs showcased on this album.

Fall of Summer opens with a piano instrumental that is a little different. The first verse sees Scotty's crisp tone at the forefront with soft lyrics making for a brilliant blend. Listeners can hear the lovable side of Scotty as the chorus kicks in and once again allows for the songwriting to be at the forefront which in my opinion is a brilliant move. The second and third verses are brilliantly connected making this song one of my favourites in this new era of Scotty music. The warm summery feels are brilliant to hear as I write this on a Sunny afternoon.

Love Like This sees Scotty's crisp vocal tone complimented by a crisp guitar instrumental allowing for some wonderfully songwriting to shine through as Scotty opens up about the things he loves, but ultimately you can hear how much Scotty loves his wife, Gabi and his son. The chorus is filled with many heartfelt emotions lyrics that give Scotty the opportunity to let us listeners in, but the softer tone during the bridge is brilliantly timed. However, it was the second verse that had me emotional as you could hear Scotty singing about his son's birth and how extremely happy he was in that moment and how proud he was of Gabi which was emotional to hear. The final verse is about adapting to parenthood  that is relatable for many listeners and this is why so many people enjoy Scotty's music. Throughout Love Like This you can hear how much Scotty loves his family and that it's son and Gabi's happiness are the most important thing.

Slow Dance has a very traditional country feel to it that I really love and appreciate as it reminded me of the reason why I loved Scotty's music in the first place due to the soulful tones. The lyrics are beautifully written with such heartfelt moments appearing throughout but especially within the chorus as you can tell how much Scotty appreciates his wife, Gabi and their relationship it's like he is singing the song to her. The way that the chorus is the centre piece of the song allowing for Scotty to demonstrate his many different vocal tones. The second verse is powerful and the vulnerability from Scotty makes the perfect blend. Slow Dance is another song that reminded me of the reason why I love country music in the first place, so thank you Scotty!

No Country For Old Men is a slow soft song that is written from the perspective of a country farmer it would appear, but it's great how Scotty and his co-writers managed to do this as it is a brilliant idea for Rise and Fall. The lyrics are powerful ones with the chorus being the one that show me getting emotional with all the country mentions. I struggled to write this one as I caught myself listening to the lyrics so closely I spent more my time in tears because I enjoyed it that much.

And Countin' is a relatable song talking about when things go wrong, working all hours and how everything adds up, but it is the chorus that is the catchiest part of the song as you can hear the fun side of the song come to life. The second verse is brilliant as it adds another dynamic to the song making for even more realities come to life with the upbeat instrumental coming through.

Stuck Behind A Tractor has a guitar instrumental throughout allowing for Scotty to open the song with his crisp vocal giving the story behind the lyrics to come through which in turn reminded me of the Scotty, I enjoyed watching all those years ago on American Idol by returning to his roots in would appear. The chorus is fantastic as it has a really warm farm country feel as someone who spent a lot of time on a farm growing up it was fantastic to hear but the tractors drivers on our roads are a pain but moments like this have to happen for their crops and farm to grow.

Red Letter Blueprint begins with a piano instrumental which is beautiful to open this wonderful heartfelt song. Scotty's crisp vocal with the poignant lyrics are a perfect blend captivating you as you listen carefully to this family song - a song that reminds me of my grandparents. The second verse is beautifully written and reminded me of the reason why I first loved Scotty as an artist. The more the chorus is shared the more emotional, I become. The bridge is stunning with the soft crisp tone, before the upbeat vocal returns for the final chorus.

The guitar instrumental that opens Porch is wonderful for this final track of Rise and Fall with Scotty's crisp vocal it takes you on a journey from the very first verse. The story within the storytelling is great as the lyrics are ones that roll off your tongue and I have a feeling this song was great to write as it is full of a lot of honesty. The chorus is brilliant and filled with some wonderful moments as you can hear a little of Scotty's life in the lyrics especially his son, and his relationship with his own father, Mike.
