INTERVIEW WITH EMMA & JOLIE ABOUT THEIR BRAND NEW SINGLE, ALL THAT GLITTERS OUT TODAY
Today (Friday 8th October) will see British singer-songwriting duo, Emma and Jolie release their brand new single, All That Glitters.
You can read my review of All That Glitters here.
Morning, Emma and Jolie. How are you today?
Hi! We are feeling so happy that everybody can now hear All That Glitters! We’re gutted that we can’t be together, again! As unfortunately Emma has got Covid, but we are going to be on facetime celebrating!
Oh, Emma I hope you are feeling a little better. I am so connect facetime is great for making you two connect.
Thank you so much for allowing me to interview you once again about your brand new single. How are you feeling about the release of All That Glitters today?
We are so proud of this song and we definitely feel it’s bringing a new era to Emma & Jolie so we are so excited for everyone to finally hear the song.
I absolutely love this single, and I am very grateful to you both for choosing to release a single like this.
Emma and Jolie, please can you tell us a little more about All That Glitters?
All That Glitters is about knowing that somebody isn’t good for you but you just can’t stop going back to them. However, shiny someone may seem on the outside, doesn't mean that it correlates on who they are on the inside.
Thank you for the more insight about the single. I have to say many people will definitely appreciate you releasing All That Glitters as they realise that they are not alone.
Did you have any co-writers on the single?
We co wrote with Adam Fitzgerald. He is a friend of Jolie’s who we have written with in the past and we were really lucky to have him write this song with us.
I thought you would this song alone so hearing that you wrote it with a very good friend makes you understand a little more about the perspective of the single at some parts.
I hear you wrote All That Glitters during lockdown how did the write come about?
It all happened over Zoom, which has been a pretty prominent part of our writing regime at the moment!
Good old zoom, it has helped us so much over the pandemic and still now.
What inspired you to write All That Glitters?
The saying “All That Glitters isn’t Gold” and how we thought this could relate to a break up, both going through break ups where we have gone back to someone who we know we would be better of without, we felt that saying was a great fit when writing a song about it.
The way that you have explained this has me a little emotional as like you have said you have made it into the most wonderful song.
How long did it take you to write and record All That Glitters?
The writing session took around 2 hours, however we had to fly to Edinburgh in April just when everything opened again, to record the single. We recorded this song with Graeme Young in Chamber Studios, The process of recording took about 6 hours, which you can really hear in the track throughout all the layering of the vocals. We had never recorded in that studio before and it was so much fun!
What a journey you have for sure had with this single's process - makes me have a little more respect for you and I didn't even think that was possible (you know me girls!)
I have to praise you on the writing of All That Glitters because there is something so unique about the way you have written this song. I am certainly going through saying goodbye to certain friendships and this song has definitely helped me to understand why we have to, so thank you!
We have always hoped that people would be able to relate to our writing, whether that be with friends, family or relationships, I’m so glad it has helped you and you have been able to relate to it!
Did you always know that you were going to release this song as your next single?
Yes! As soon as we wrote it we knew that we were going to release it. We wanted it to be our next release as our last two singles were both ballads so we’ve been really excited to release another up tempo song.
Love it when you know that you were going to release this single straight after writing - it's very different and listeners of Country Music love listening to changes within song styles.
All That Glitters seems like a change in direction for you girls was this always the plan for this single?
We’ve been together for over two years now and we’ve both developed a lot as singers and songwriters, and I think we have just finally found our sound! This definitely feels like a new era for us and we can't wait for you all to be a part of it.
I still can't believe that you have only been together for two years, it sounds like you have been together for quite a few more years. I am very proud of your journey as singer-songwriters, I can't wait for the listeners to love and appreciate the new era.
How would you sum up your single, All That Glitters in 3 words for people wanting to listen to All That Glitters?
Pop Country Gold.
Oh, love these.
Thank you so much for your time, Emma and Jolie. I am very grateful, it's been an absolute pleasure like it always is!
