SOPHOMORE ALBUM REVIEW - TIGIRLILY GOLD - COUNTRY & MIDWESTERN

Today (Friday 9th October), Tigirlily Gold made up of sisters, Kendra and Krista have released their new era of music with the release of their sophomore album, Country & Midwestern.
Kendra and Krista co-wrote all 16 tracks of their sophomore album.

COUNTRY

Girl's A Goner in my opinion is the perfect song opener as you can hear both Kendra and Krista's vocal tones, whilst telling an emotional song within the songs lyrics. The vulnerability within the song is emotional at times, whilst remaining open and honest especially within the chorus which for me is the most emotional. The fact that at times, I took the songs lyrics one way and then another for me is a brilliant move. 70 And Neon is an old school feeling song that I caught myself absolutely enjoying from the very start thanks to Kendra and Krista's high energy vocals. There is something so special and unique about Kendra and Krista style of songwriting that got me a little excited about this song especially as the lyrics are filled with many catchy ones that reminds me of 'Shoot Tequila' - could this be there follow up to it? The storytelling throughout is brilliant, and honestly one of those songs you can listen to on repeat. Every time you can hear these sisters have a fabulous time, the listeners will too.

I Do or Die has an old school 90's country feel which I absolutely love. The lyrics are super fun, and honest whilst remains honest to their Tigirlily Gold style making it the perfect blend. The chorus is filed with fun lyrics that you can hear them singing about parts of their own relationships, obviously not all is true for the storyline. The understanding of relationships mentioned throughout show a lot of respect, and the mention of time apart is great, and sometimes very much needed to realise what you have, and what you would miss if you wasn't in that relationship.

Better Off Comes Last is one of the poignant songs on Country & Midwestern that I caught myself getting a little emotional over especially within the first verse into chorus thanks to Kendra's crisp tone with such honest lyrics, however, it was the harmonies throughout the chorus that saw the tears roll. The songwriting alone is incredible, and one I hope they decide to release as a single. Kendra's vocal performance gave me chills - thank you for being so open and honest with us listeners. Something To Drink About begins a little differently to their previous songs however, their vocal tones remain the same with Kendra's crispy tones opening. The chorus is the fun part that allows for Kendra and Krista to demonstrate their fun side which is something that I enjoy most about Tigirlily Gold's music and always have whilst flipping the typical script. The second and final verse connect beautifully with the chorus seeing the sisters remain true to themselves as well as their Midwestern style coming through. Kendra and Krista's songwriting ability never fails to amaze me, and Something To Drink About is no different.

Diamond On Your Tab has a very old school country feel that breaks this album up wonderfully, whilst remaining true to Tigirlily Gold's style of music which is special. The songwriting throughout is heartfelt making it rather beautiful. The relationship feel is magical as it look it can take for one person is one look. Next up is One Drive Back which sees Krista and Kendra's harmonies showcased once again from the very beginning, but it's Kendra's heartbreaking lyrical delivery that broke me as you can feel the heartbreak within the songs lyrics. It's the silence that speaks the most, and this song displays that the most and fantastically chosen direction.

The Clock ends this Country chapter is another poignant song that is filled with a lot of emotion that talks about the clock ticking and us only having so long treasure the little moments, and hold the ones you love tightly. Every verse is a different chapter of life in this beautifully delivered song, but it was verse two that saw the younger you memories bought up in this painless way, but made you think back to when you were 18 - how life has changed when you look at where you are now! Shoutout to Kendra for her standout vocal delivery, and to Krista for the perfect harmonies!

MIDWESTERN

After a quick Interlude, Country & Midwestern continued with Country & Midwestern begins with some beautiful harmonies from Kendra and Krista. You can hear how personal the lyrics are for the sisters allowing for another side of the upbringing to be bought to life through a song. The chorus is super fun and catchy which sticking with the Country & Midwestern theme is a brilliant move.

Forever From Here begins with a guitar instrumental setting tone brilliantly. Kendra's soft tone opening Forever From Here is great as it allows for the song to come to live straight away with the country feel and love in a relationship that you want to hold on to before Krista joins creating from wonderful harmonies. The chorus is fantastic and brilliantly written the perfect Valentine's Day song release and that sometimes you have to take a leap of faith in the things you love. Kendra's vocal range throughout is stunningly placed together taking us listeners on a journey from start to finish. Forever From Here is written from the heart and as they say write what you know - Kendra and Krista definitely have with this song. Call Your Mom reminds me a little of my own childhood with my mum, alongside those childhood memories and how moving into a relationship can be hard as you never want to replace mother figure that raised you. The chorus is emotional as the verses link beautifully with the honest lyrics filled with such vulnerability and honesty. The tones from Kendra and Krista throughout were fantastic - thank you for writing this song!

Folgers is a standout track for me thanks to Grandpa Bruce which had me tearing up a lot. Folgers is such a personal and meaningful song that honestly fills me with such joy where you can feel the sisters instantly connecting with in-particularly the chorus with the homeland being bought into the song. The storytelling mixed with the songwriting were brilliant allowing for us listeners to hear another side of the sister's. That final line from Grandpa Bruce was emotional, and a wonderful way to end this song.
Grain begins with a wonderfully upbeat instrumental complimented by Kendra's vocals that are filled with many of their homegrown knowledge and country surrounding that instantly reminded me of my upcoming on my Grandad's farm. The chorus features some of the most beautiful lyrics that took me back to my Sunday's at my Grandparents linking into every verse wonderfully telling a beautiful story that only a very few will understand. Krista and Kendra's harmonies and individual tones are brilliant.

Blue Jean Blue is a much softer sounding song that in my opinion is very much needed, whilst remaining a very playful song that the allows the listeners to make their own interruption of the lyrics especially within the chorus, however the journey that the song takes you on is fantastic and something I have nothing but praise for Kendra and Krista on. Plateau ends Tigirlily Gold's sophomore album brilliantly due to the softer sounding tones from Kendra and Krista that instantly became my favourite song. The songwriting throughout is stunning with the honesty and clever storytelling - feels like it sums up with musical journey wonderfully especially as being a song about new beginnings.
