EP REVIEW - EMILY ANN ROBERTS - THREAD

Today (Friday 16th October), singer-songwriter, Emily Ann Roberts released her brand-new EP, Thread which is made up of 5 songs.

The soft guitar instrumental opens Thread beautifully with lyrics that take you on a journey from the very beginning with many warm, and heartfelt moments especially within the chorus that I have to admit made me a little emotional. The second verse bought the song together wonderfully as you could hear a lot of emotion heading into the chorus which honestly makes the song along with Emily Ann's soft crisp vocal tones.

Lonely Boy showcases Emily Ann's crisp vocal tones, whilst allowing for this fantastic storytelling to shine through. I love the high level of energy that Emily Ann brings to her music, and the importance of the little things she does in life making her music super unique. The use of instrumental are selected beautifully especially with Lonely Boy having a bluegrass feel to it which I rather appreciated.

Garden Grow is upbeat compared to the rest of the songs on this EP. The catchiness is evident from the very first lyrics with the lyrics being honest, and ones that are definitely sung about Emily Ann's love for the outside doors, whilst having her love by her side in Chris - some things are better together! The chorus is beautiful summing up Chris and Emily Ann's relationship. I have never heard a more Emily Ann song than Garden Grow, and I thank you for releasing this song whilst allowing us fans to follow your home life with your love of growing your own vegetables.

When I Do is another soft sounding song with a beautiful instrumental with a song that gets you thinking about life, and how everyone's life and journey'are different. There is something so beautiful and honest about the songs lyrics that makes me a little emotional as I am listening thanks to the journey When I Do takes you on, however, it's the chorus that makes me get a real appreciation for lyrics especially when they talk about calling that person that you can don't know if you should call or not - confused over what to do for the best.

Beginning with Emily Ann's crisp tones, Laundry allows for her songwriting to shine through. Laundry is one emotional that much is obvious from the first line as you can feel a mix of emotions as you can hear the unfaithfulness of a relationship, whilst also reminding yourself that it's ok to be in slow line in life as you begin to get yourself back together alongside wanting more, whilst having a 90's country feel. However, on the flip side it's about the people that only ever air other people's laundry and not always for the right reasons - it's a song that lets you decide your take! Its the second verse into chorus that I caught myself getting teary over as the meaning of song changed once again, and couldn't stop myself feeling for anyone that has ever been in that situation, whilst hearing Emily Ann's gorgeous crisp tones making it more emotional due to the connection of the songs lyrics as they talk about moving on (the best they can, and if they can). The lyrics throughout are filled with a lot of catchiness yet emotions are high, as well as being super relatable for some listeners, however for me they are ones that I can't want to 'sing' on a sunny day with the windows rolled down.
