EP REVIEW - ERIN KINSEY - BET MY HEART
Today (Friday 19th May) will see singer-songwriter, Erin Kinsey release her brand new EP, Bet My Heart.
Bet My Heart is made up of 7 songs.
You can read my interview with Erin here.
Boys In Boots has an upbeat drum, piano instrumental supporting the song fantastically throughout before Erin's crisp vocal comes in with lyrics that just fall off your tongue with country vibes about dressing up. The western theme is brilliant. The chorus features many fun, happy lyrics filled with great honesty due to the catchy tones - the perfect summer road trip song. Boys in Boots continues beautifully with love story feelings with the happiness that the song brings which was great to hear with this upbeat country song. Te softer bridge from Erin is brilliantly timed before the upbeat final chorus comes back in taking the song full circle.
Stayed A Summer starts with a soft instrumental along with Erin's soft crisp vocal are the perfect blend. With lyrics that just roll off your tongue with brilliant storytelling. The chorus gives a love story kind of vibe from the chorus which is wonderful allowing for us listeners to hear the softer side of Erin. The second verse continues with the reality side of the relationship as it comes to the forefront. It's wonderful to see Erin wearing her heart on her sleeve. The instrumental breakdown is fantastic and once Erin's softer vocal comes back as Stayed A Summer comes to a magical end - full circle moment. Erin, your songwriting on Stayed A Summer is brilliant.
Little More Cowboy has a rather wonderful country feel that mixed with its softer vibe is a wonderful blend. Erin's crisp vocal mixed with the beautiful storytelling that hits you right away is something I wasn't expecting to hit me in the way that it did. The chorus features lyrics that are poignant allowing for the listeners to have their own take on the lyrics/ song. When the lyrics hit me, wow it's so powerful. The second verse is the part of the song just rolls off your tongue as it's the part of the song where you are just rolling with what is happening giving us listeners some vulnerability that is also fantastic to hear on EP's. The way that the chorus links every single verse fantastically as I caught myself listening closely to the lyrics seeing myself a few times getting emotional.
Bet My Heart starts with a guitar instrumental that compliments Erin's crisp vocal tone fantastically throughout. The lyrics are ones that have been carefully thought about, the country vibe is wonderful. The chorus is my favourite part of the song thanks to the catchiness that makes you want to get up and dance due to the happiness shown through the lyrics. Erin's songwriting is beautifully showcased. The second verse has a lot of real life vibes with the happiness of the relationship/ friendship, whilst wearing her heart on her sleeve. The softer vocal within the bridge is a great break up.
Always Never begins with soft piano instrumental with Erin's soft tone taking the lead with emotional lyrics at the forefront with this raw connection to the lyrics that bought a tear to my eye. The songwriting shines beautifully from start to finish of Always Never. The first verse sees this wonderful story being bought to life thanks to a shock break up and the struggle you face after a relationship ends with no warning with the second showcasing more of that side. The second verse allows the listeners to hear another side of who Erin is as an artist with many powerful moments throughout. I love the vulnerability shown giving me a new appreciation of who what a brilliant singer-songwriter, Erin is.
Vegas starts with a guitar instrumental. The first verse sees Erin's softer vocal at the forefront with the 'what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas' wedding vibes. All the ideas of what you want from your special day that swirl around in your head are shared. The chorus is a happy one about your special day/ dreams of what you think you would like. The catchy vibes are magical. Erin's thoughts that are written into this song are great and about finding the one that you want to spend the rest of your life with. The softer bridge is wonderful leading to a crisp vocal from Erin before the uptempo vocal from Erin is bought back to end Vegas.
Handful (Acoustic) is bought to real with a soft instrumental that compliment the heartfelt vocals wonderfully. Handful is filled with a lot of honesty due to the real life aspect that is given throughout making for many standout moments. All three verses link fantastically together due to the softer chorus being one that many I have a feeling will enjoy. Handful is the perfect song to end Erin's latest EP with allowing for the listeners to hear many different vocal tones/ sides of Erin as an artist.
