EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH HARRIET BIBBY ABOUT WHAT'S TO COME FOR SUMMER & 2023 HOPES

Last Thursday (1st December) during an Coronation Street press event which saw a new set unveiled which is coming on our screens in early 2023, I had the opportunity to put some questions to Harriet Bibby who plays Summer Spellman to offer an exclusive interview.

Touching upon when Harriet take over the role of Summer and how they threw her straight in, Harriet said: "They did, definitely."

Summer has been through one hell of a year with her eating disorder, exam struggles, to her diabetes diagnosis, and now her pregnancy/ miscarriage storyline, Harriet said "It's been a heavy year for Summer, and they all kind of link in together obviously Summer getting diabetes was difficult manage, and that led into her eating disorder it all kind of leads into one another. It's been a heavy year and I think the universe is throwing things at her and having to deal with it - I think is hard."

What lighter scenes would you like to see as you have the Esther/ Mike storyline, what can you tease? "Well you have Esther and Mike here, I think Summer just wants to make sure that everyone is happy, she feels responsible for other people's sort of happiness and wants to make sure everyone's getting what they want. She wants to help Aaron's dad, she wants to help Aaron, she wants to help Mike and Esther, but she's got herself into a spot of bother. We'll see what happens."

How do you think Billy is going to react? "I don't think he's not going to be very happy, a lot of concerns obviously she's had such a tough year anyway, anything Summer does they've got eyes on her. I mean to make sure she's ok! She's got herself into this situation." Before talking adding about if Billy will be supportive? "I think he'll always try and support Summer in the best way that he can, but sometimes support doesn't come in just agreeing with everything that someone says sometimes it comes in tough love!"

Speaking of the hopes for Summer over the next few months, Harriet said: "She's not having a good time, I think obviously this storyline (Mike/ Esther/ Summer's pregnancy) is long from finished, lots of twists and turns coming."  Before Harriet added "Personally, I'd like to see her having a bit more fun with her mates, like they have all just moved in to a flat together."

Teasing about what's to come in 2023, do you think things will settle now? "Well, I think we are in for another busy year, but hopefully a bit more of a steadier year for Summer. Be lovely to see some lighter stuff, definitely."

We couldn't end the interview with talking about Harriet's Christmas plans could we? "So, we get a couple of weeks off filming here which will be nice as I've had a really busy year, but I'm just going back to Lancashire with my family."

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1.
