ALBUM REVIEW - KELSEA BALLERINI - SUBJECT TO CHANGE

Last Friday (23rd September), US singer-songwriter, Kelsea Ballerini released her brand new album, Subject To Change.
Subject To Change is made up of 15 songs.

Subject To Change is an heartfelt song that is full of a lot of honest lyrics that stays throughout allowing us listeners know about what a raw and emotional journey, she has been on over the past 2 years and how growing up and growing is ok! The chorus is full of a lot of vulnerability as well as being confident at times thanks to the empowering lyrics that Kelsea has written within this gorgeous song. Growing up as we get older is ok and things changing is OK believe in yourself! The instrumental is beautifully timed complimenting the songs catchy lyrics which many listeners will appreciate hearing.

The Little Things has a quirky, sassy, and fun side that caught my ears alongside the upbeat instrumental which for me is something I wasn't expecting. I really enjoy the take of the lyrics on the first verse thanks to the sassy and honesty on not needing experience is rather beautiful. As The little Things heads into the chorus a lot of the vulnerability shines through as its the little things in life that we appreciate. Its the special moments in our relationships that mean the most to us especially knowing how and when to confide in one another as well as comfort each other. For me the more I heard the chorus the more I really appreciated the lyrics and there journey through all the emotion. The bridge sees the sassy and emotionally soft side shine through as it ends into the chorus once again to end the song fantastically.

I Can't Help Myself has an upbeat guitar and drum instrumental allowing for a different kind of feel to be added to this beautiful album. The sassiness from the real-life lyrics that most people do on a daily basis were good to hear in a song as it showed the 'normal' things. The chorus is a fun, funky one thanks to the happiness in the lyrics that sometimes shines through about turning the page and how the journey of the song is fantastically written. Another thing I caught myself journey about the chorus was the fact that it blends into every single verse beautifully due to the personal feels within every single verse.

If You Go Down (I'm Goin' Down Too) starts with a very country feel with many different instruments that I loved hearing. The first verse sees Kelsea's crisp, sassy vocals thanks to a lot of references to the past that I caught myself rather enjoying. There is something so fantastic about the style of this song, and the way that Kelsea isn't afraid of saying exactly what she is thinking. I am all in for the new Kelsea Ballerini Era. The chorus is fantastically upbeat, and the honesty that shines through I adore! The fact that Kelsea talks about relationships and about supporting one another is great, but it kinds feels you feeling a mix of emotions. The rhyming at times is brilliant to hear within a song. Whilst the chorus links to every single part of the song with such greatness.

Love Is A Cowboy starts with a soulful country feel that I utterly adore right from the start. Kelsea's softer crisp vocal is beautiful as you can hear a lot the journey to finding love and the rollercoaster that love takes you on. The lyrics throughout Love Is A Cowboy are so beautiful and the storytelling is fantastic has it is filled with a lot of honesty and heartfelt moments that will get the listeners thinking for sure as she reflects on her own journey. WOW, the chorus is stunning - utterly perfect with the lyrics embracing the journey with such honesty. Kelsea isn't afraid to sing about the good and bad times you face within love during this song making it even more special especially as the lyrics are from the heart and relatable for many. The softer tones that end Love Is A Cowboy are beautifully delivered ahead of the final verse/ chorus. Love Is A Cowboy needs to feature in a movie now as it's the perfect soundtrack for a happy ending.

Muscle Memory has a soft instrumental which showcases Kelsea's vocal right from the every start. Kelsea's fantastic vocal tone from the start is great thanks to the purity, and vulnerability that is showcased. The lyrics throughout I Can't Help Myself as they take you on a journey due to the fact that it is full of honesty that I really appreciate as I was closely listening. The lyrics are beautifully written, whilst being rather heartfelt due to the vocal delivery from Kelsea in every single verse. The chorus is my favourite part of the song as it links beautifully with every single verse.

I Guess They Call It Fallin' is a fun, sassy, whilst also being a little vulnerable - something I am loving from Kelsea on this new era of music. The honesty right from the start is fall of grace, and written from the heart. The personal experience that Kelsea has written in this song is beyond beautiful allowing listeners into her world for a few minutes. The chorus is stunning as it full of relatable lyrics that many listeners will appreciate as it sums up her journey. The fact that I Guess They Call It Fallin' has an array of emotions showcased through out is fantastic making it even more special and allows you to get into her journey as well as realise this can happen to anyone.

Weather is a sassy song about all the wrong things in a relationship, as well as being filled with a lot of vulnerability once again. The chorus' lyrics are beautifully written from the heart and of experience that takes you on a journey that I can say will be very much appreciated by many listeners of this album. The funky instrumental in the middle is beautifully delivered.

Universe has a beautiful and magical instrumental that had me hooked. The honesty within the lyrics took me on a journey thanks to the vocal delivery from Kelsea which was stunning throughout. As the chorus kicked in so did the emotions I was feeling due to the songwriting. A song I never knew how much I needed to hear. The more I heard the chorus the more I appreciated the lyrics and the versatility from Kelsea.

Walk In The Park starts with a soulful sound that brings a breath of fresh air to this album. Kelsea's sweet soft vocal delivery was a brilliant choice. The change of pace added an amazing layer to this album and Kelsea's journey as a whole allowing us listeners to hear yet another side. The message throughout Walk In The Park is a beautiful one as it got me thinking of those hometown moments whether you are still there, moved away or moving back - change can be hard and a difficult choice to make as we are all only human! The magical part of the song for me was when the chorus vocal got a little softer before the crisp tempo returned as it was repeated to end the song.

HeartFirst starts with an upbeat piano instrumental which has some upbeat party vibes mixed in. The first verse sees Kelsea's uplifting vocal tone at the forefront throughout mixed in with many catchy lyrics with that 'fairytale' everyone wants with their loves - love how Kelsea is able to has hers exists through this song. HeartFirst is a rollercoaster of a song that blends perfectly into the chorus after every single verse especially as she sings about the risks of a relationship as well as the positives - love is worth the risk in most cases. In the second verse, listeners hear about the next stage of the relationship and only you can decide if they are worth taking or not feel like I am listening to this song from a different perspective. Hearing how Kelsea is singing based on her own experience is wonderful to hear, Kelsea and Morgan are a beautiful couple. HeartFirst features a lot of honesty which is just fantastic especially going into the final verse which is utterly stunning in my opinion with that 'perfect' ending. As HeartFirst goes into the final chorus the song is bought full circle brilliantly.

You're Drunk, Go Home is an upbeat, and one of those party kind of feel songs that also has a proper country feel thanks to the fun tempo of the song - love it! The chorus is brilliant and especially as from the second repeat you can hear Kelly Clarkson and Carly Pearce on allowing for another fun moment in the song to be heard due to the fact that their vocals blend perfectly together. The second see Kelly and Carly on it giving listeners many fantastic moments. Kelsea's tone is beautifully crisp the whole way through.

Doin' My Best starts is one of my favourite songs of this brand new Kelsea Ballerini era. Doin' My Best is a song filled with a lot of honesty once again demonstrating how much Kelsea has been through over the past 2 years especially. The chorus is an emotional one as you can hear lots of vulnerability alongside the fact the lyrics come from the heart. The raw and emotional lyrics are ones that many fans will be able to relate too, and appreciate thanks to the growth. Doin' My Best vocal delivery is great and the softer tone through is the perfect blend.

Marilyn is another favourite of mine. The soft piano instrumental is beautifully timed as it allows for the lyrics to shine through. Once again it is a raw and emotional song that you can hear a lot of raw and honest lyrics as well as lots of appreciate for the journey of the song. The chorus gets you thinking and the extremely soft vocal when Kelsea added many fantastic layers.

What I Have opens up with a guitar instrumental which is poignantly soft. The first verse sees Kelsea's soft vocal at the forefront allowing for the most natural soft vocal tones to come out with some of the most real-life lyrics that you could possibly hear. The chorus features some of the most beautiful, relatable and honest lyrics that many of us listeners will love and appreciate hearing. The second verse of What I Have continues with these small moments of happiness when you buy something just for you to make to feel good. Kelsea's vocal is everything. The appreciation, I have for Kelsea and this songs lyrics is beautiful. The final verse brings the song to a much natural end. The perfect end for this new era of Kelsea music.
