EP REVIEW - KYLIE MORGAN - HEALED COWGIRL PART 1
Today (Friday 10th April), US singer-songwriter, Kylie Morgan released her brand-new EP, Healed Cowgirl Part 1 which features 8 tracks all co-written by Kylie.
You Had Me At Howdy is an upbeat and old school country feel which I absolutely love as it opens this era of new music from Kylie brilliantly. The lyrics are very fun, and catchy, whilst remaining the true Kylie music we know and love is still there. There is something special about the songs lyrics that made me instantly want to sing along despite not knowing the lyrics 100%, however, the instrumental was great listening.
Then You Happened has been one of my favourite songs since it was released that moment you start to believe in love again. The vulnerability within Kylie's vocal tones from the first verse were moving, and allowed listeners in right from the very start following one relationship ending and another beginning. The chorus is stunning, and that moment happened when you didn't think was going to happen, but out of nowhere it happened, and started feel happy again. The second verse continues with the struggles of a new relationship as you get used to how one another work, whist remembering the previous relationship and struggle to move on. The honesty throughout is super moving especially with Kylie's soft tones near the end of the song.
Hell Bent is a softer sounding song on Kylie's EP that allows for Kylie's softer tones to shine with lyrics that are heartfelt as you can hear the thoughts of thinking to the future with that one person that allows you/ believes in your dreams. The heartfelt and honest lyrics had me emotional many times throughout, and I am so grateful for Kylie sharing this part of her journey, as she shows you that it's OK not to be perfect all the time, and the struggles are what makes us - but doing it with someone is special, and that change is accepted.
Love and Country Music is another fun and catchy song that is also very unhinged which after Kylie has been teasing this one for week's I am so glad to be able to hear the version in full, and the sassiness from Kylie is brilliantly included. I have a feeling that this is song is coming to be become many listeners favourite song, and I know it's becoming one of my favourite Kylie songs.
1(800) - DUMP HIM is a fun, yet honest conversation with yourself whether it's during a relationship or after dumping someone you were in a relationship with, with the chorus being a little tongue and cheek whilst at the same time being filled with a lot of honesty that are super catchy. Kylie's storytelling through is clearly based on her own experience making this songs message even more important. The message I could from this song is never settle for any less than you deserve.
Cool It Cowboy is fun, and playful sounding song that I caught myself listening to the lyrics very closely as you can hear the hurt of a previous situation become one of these tongue and cheek moments making it into a fun catchy song.
Like My Own is a rather special song as she sings about her stepdaughter who Kylie is glad came into her life despite the fact she was terrified to begin with especially as she thought about being a step parent, but bravely spoke about not trying to fill her mother's shoes, whilst trying to be there for her new step-daughter as she navigates a new chapter. The lyrics of the chorus are heartfelt as you can hear many different vulnerabilities making it a rather special song. Thank you, Kylie for allowing us into one of the toughest, yet one of the most privileged moment of your personal life's journey, and for writing a song for the step mums out there.
Kylie's EP ends with Break Up With Me is a powerful song with a very important message throughout about telling someone that you aren't changing as she said "I ain't changing no time soon", whilst telling the person they are in the relationship with they would 'Break Up With Me' which I can hear some hurt within Kylie's vocal tones as she sings this song. The verses throughout are heartfelt and filled with a lot of honesty that I have a feeling many listeners will be able to relate with.
I feel like Break Up With Me ends this collection of music from Kylie beautifully, showcasing her vocal tones and storytelling fantastically!
Thank you for allowing us listeners to heal with you!
