DEBUT EP REVIEW - BECOMING BRANCHES WITH THEIR DEBUT SELF-TITLED EP, BECOMING BRANCHES
Back on 13th March, 2020, Becoming Branches released their debut EP, Becoming Branches.
Becoming Branches are a Country-Folk-Pop trio from the New Forest made up of Jaz, Rob and Hannah which was formed in 2018.
Becoming Branches features 5 songs.
Take You Home starts with a beautiful guitar instrumental which is something I love hearing on an opening track. The first verse sees a female lead vocal with a crisp tone which allows us listeners to get a real feel for the track and what it's about within the first few lyrics. I love the demonstration of vocal ranges allowing the lyrics to shine through. The chorus sees the trio's wonderful harmonies come in to play as well as hearing a male vocal which works amazingly on this song. The second verse continues with a female lead which works perfectly for the lyrics and the song makes me wanna sing along despite not knowing the lyrics. The final verse of Take You Home sees the song bought to it's most natural and beautiful end allowing the beautiful song-writing once again to come through thanks to their stunning vocal tones.
Under The Waves starts with a strong female vocal with a magical instrumental in the background. The opening of Under The Waves gets off to a wonderfully fantastic start with the lyrics being rather catchy and homegrown right from the start. The first verse sees the song continuing in the most beautiful way as you start to get a real feel for the song and it's meaning. The chorus sees Under The Waves continue its magical vibes with the lyrics being written from a place of pure honesty which I loved a lot. The second verse of Under The Waves continues with the most beautiful lyrics and vocals from this trio, I was completely set into my own little world. The final chorus of Under The Waves sees the harmonies of this trio develop into something that is even more magical thanks to it's softer vocal. Under The Waves is the perfect song for radio.
The Travelling Harpist starts with soft guitar instrumental which sticks around for the whole song giving the song something rather special about it. The first verse sees a male lead which happens to break this EP up beautifully leading you to get a proper real for who this trio are as individuals as well as in a trio. The lyrics are ones that got to me instantly and ones I bought myself getting a little emotional over throughout this song if I am extremely honest with you all. The chorus of The Travelling Harpist is the trio's harmonies demonstrated beautifully within this part of the song giving the song something rather special and unique to the song. The second verse continues the song on another level as the lyrics continue to be a little emotional like in the first verse but it really suits and fits the song perfectly. The final verse of The Travelling Harpist continues in a softer vocal tone which happens to break the song up wonderfully. Their is something so special and unique about this trio that I am loving a lot as I discover them more and more in their EP.
Never Knew What Loving Was starts with a guitar instrumental which I like a lot as we go into the first verse. The first verse sees a crispy female vocal making me a very folk kind of sound within the song which is something, I am loving hearing. The lyrics are ones which happen to roll off your tongue ahead of all three vocals coming in with their mind-blowing harmonies. The chorus features some wonderfully beautiful lyrics which had me wanting to sing along whilst always getting the fell for all the trio are as artists. The second verse continues with their harmonies being proven once again what incredible song-writers and vocalists they are as everything about this verse is beautiful and works beautifully within connecting the chorus together. The instrumental ahead of the final bridge was just stunning into the final chorus. The lyrics of Never Knew What Loving Was is based on personal experience which works so wonderfully within this song.
Live Right starts with a beautiful instrumental which is very different from anything we had heard on the album which is just amazing as it brings this EP to it's most natural close. The first verse starts with a female instrumental which is something, I love as the moment the lyrics start the more I feel that the lyrics just slip of the tongue which is magical. The softer vocal tones demonstrate an endearing side towards the songs lyrics. The chorus of Live Right is one that is so memorising as soon as soon as the lyrics started with one vocal. The second verse sees a female vocal giving the song another version of meaning which I have to admit was a very good move leading to some wonderful song-writing being displayed in a crispy vocal tone which sees the most beautiful link into the chorus.
The bridge of song into the final chorus was something that was super magical and yes, I know I say magical a lot but this song really is. The lyrics of Live Right are ones that strike a chord with me instantly and stayed throughout.
