EMMERDALE EPISODE REVIEW - CHAS AND PADDY'S DIFFICULT DAY SAYING GOODBYE TO GRACE

Following on from Friday's episode of when Chas Dingle went into labour at Aaron Dingle and Robert Sugden's Stag Do which is just typically within a soap, but I am glad Paddy Kirk was there with her from the start of the most precious time in their lives.

Monday's episode was written by Paul Roundell and directed by Nickie Lister.
Watching the preview which Emmerdale released on Friday's looking at the week ahead watching today's was really hard and emotional because I couldn't help but sob my whole way through it.

Tonight's sad and emotional episode started with Chas and Paddy in the hospital where Paddy was supporting Chas as she give birth to their daughter, Grace who sadly had Bilateral Renal Agenesis which is a condition that means a baby’s kidneys have failed to develop and won't survive long after birth. And with Paddy's reaction to the moment she was born I was a mess and the episode had only just started.

In the hospital waiting outside Chas' room, Faith, Robert and Aaron are there wanting to be with Chas and Paddy. Aaron was sleeping on the sofa whilst waiting to hear any news.
Back in the hospital room, Chas and Paddy are meeting Grace for the first time where Chas is super scared and anxious to hold her daughter at first knowing that it won't be for long.
But outside the hospital room, Aaron wakes up with Marlon then arriving shortly where the nurse is seen talking to them about telling about Grace's safe arrival.

Chas holding Grace was such a wonderfully perfect moment and showed Chas being the doting mum we all know she is and would have been to Grace too and we got to also see Paddy as the doting dad that he is and would have been to Grace and my heart is breaking for this special pair!

Moments later, we saw that Aaron was starting to worry after a message from his sister Liv asking about Grace which leads to him then admits that he is sad about never getting the chance to be the best big brother he has always wanted to be also the fact that Robert was there to support him and offers his kind words was just amazing leading to Marlon rapidly telling him that he always will be but seeing Aaron this emotional - I was sobbing buckets.

I love the fact that Faith went to find Aaron after he broke down and walked away but Aaron's honesty was just so heart breaking and Faith being there for him you could tell meant so much to him and he was listening to every word she had to say to him! Before Aaron then walks off before Faith starts crying which was far too emotional because you can see how much she regrets not being there for Chas.

Paddy beating himself  up for not having something that they planned to have leading to them having a heart to heart which was too emotional to watch. My god Lucy and Dominic are breaking me tonight and it's only the first half.

This quote was so beautiful 'She’ll never dance, or have the sun on her face just for one minute' and the one I cried at the most.

I love all the looks into the future with Chas, Paddy and Grace into the future and them visiting there favourite place was rather magical and unique. I adore how happy they look as a family.
The major milestones in a child's life are being documented and the work that has gone into creating these special moments are wonderful and what the show needed before we quickly got taken back to reality in the hashed possible way with Grace's very sad death! Chas and Paddy's reaction were the most heart breaking scenes of the episodes and one that was treated with the upmost respect!

I absolutely adored the different aspects of looking into the future with Paddy and Chas with Grace thanks to them having a dream about what their future could have looked like. I have never cried so much the special efforts are just wonderful to see and I can't thank Emmerdale enough for deciding to do this kind of episode! Thank you for the incredibly tender and heart rending moments on screen and thank you to the guys behind the camera for the wonderful attention to detail. Such a wonderfully creative idea from Team Emmerdale.

I have nothing by praise for Dominic Brunt and Lucy Pargeter for the portrayal during this incredibly hard subject and I hope they get the recognition they deserve!
The emotions from Lucy and Dominic in this episode were so real and honest I couldn't help by cry when they did and this is an incredible example of when a show allows the acting and writing to shine through.

Can we please appreciate all the hard work the story liners, the writers, the actors and the directors etc for their incredible work during the whole duration of this harrowing and delicate storyline!
But a massive shout out to Sophie Poulston for the casting of older Grace, you did a great job!

This episode of Emmerdale aired on Monday 1st October, 2018 on ITV.
