ALBUM REVIEW - KAYLEE BELL - NIGHTS LIKE THIS

Last Friday (15th March) New Zealand born singer-songwriter, Kaylee Bell released her brand album, Nights Like This which is made up of 11 tracks.

Take It To The Highway opens up Kaylee's album brilliantly thanks to an upbeat instrumental giving off summer road trip vibes. The first verse sees Kaylee's crisp tone which is brilliant showcased throughout. However, the chorus is great and filled with many super catchy lyrics allowing for the sunset vibe moments to come through. The more I heard the chorus the more I enjoyed it. The second verse is beautifully written and has such a wonderful vibe to it that made me instantly smile. Kaylee's songwriting is brilliant. Take It To The Highway is the perfect road trip anthem, perfect for that romantic summer picnic.

Good Things begins with a upbeat pop country feel the perfect blend. The verses see Kaylee's crisp tone with the song having this perfect road trip kind of vibe with lyrics that make you want to sing along to despite not knowing the lyrics 100%. Good Things is a song about never giving up on your dreams and how moving away from your loved ones can be so hard especially if it's long distance making for some emotive moments. The lyrics speak volumes due to the inspiring songwriting. However, for me the chorus is filled with such honesty and emotion that I caught myself shedding a tear when it talks about never giving up on our dreams as for me and many people these kind of lyrics within songs help us stay focused. Having supported Kaylee since 2016, I can honestly say this song is something special as I could hear so much emotion regarding her journey of where she is today! The final line 'Good Things will come my way' they definitely are!

When Summer Rolls Around has an upbeat instrumental which compliments Kaylee's soft vocal tone as the perfect summer anthem begins. The good times you hear within the songs first and second verse are wonderfully written, however it's the final verse for me which happens to the the chorus is the best as the softer tones allow for the lyrics to shine through as well as show off what a great songwriter she is. The chorus alone is brilliant as it allows for Kaylee to share with the listeners a little about her upbringing in a small town that I have a feeling a lot of people will be able to relate with. I can't wait for the summer to come and I can play this song a lot.

Boots N All has an upbeat instrumental that has a little bit of rock'n'roll too. I love the Shania Twain feel to the song thanks to the brilliant lyrics that have a very Nashville kind of take reminding me of C2C with the party vibes. The chorus has such a fun upbeat allowing for many catchy moments. There are so many ways you can interpret the lyrics with some being a little more emotional than others. The bridge and final chorus was the standout moment for me as that's the part that takes us listeners on a ride. Thank you, Kaylee for writing and releasing such a brilliant song.

Life Is Tough (But So Am I) Featuring Navy sees a different kind of artistry from Kaylee that I wasn't expecting, but I loved hearing this different side as you can hear so much growth from Kaylee over the years. There is something so wonderful about the songwriting and the delivery of the lyrics that makes for some interesting listening as the song progresses. The chorus is filled with many inspiring lyrics that make you instantly want to smile as everyone has those moments where things get worse but its about the way we overcome that says a lot especially as the song goes into the second verse. I love how catchy Life Is Tough (But So Am I) is, a perfect anthem for never giving up on your dreams!

You Learn begins with a soft instrumental that is complimented by Kaylee's soft crisp vocal. You can hear a lot of vulnerability with this version of the song which is a lot different to the original which I love just as much - Kaylee's version is filled with many stunning moments allowing for a more layered version due to her own take on the meaning of the song making it more personal. The slowed down version is great and very true to who Kaylee is as an artist.

Where Were You sees Kaylee's brilliant songwriting shine through from the very start painting a picture of love. The chorus is stunning as it's filled with heartfelt moments that you can slowly hear the sad affect of with 'Where Were You' being about the person you care about. Where Were You is a very sad love story especially within the second verse as that aspect of the story became more apparent making it a beautiful ballad for this album allowing for the vulnerable side of Kaylee to be shown. The final verse and chorus when slowed down were extremely powerful. Where Were You shows the incredibly caring side as well as how genuine you are within sharing important messages within your songs.

Nights Like This begins with a soft instrumental that compliments Kaylee's crisp tone as well as the lyrics showing what a great singer-songwriter she is. The lyrics take you on a journey throughout the song. The chorus makes for brilliant listening as even those the story is there, there are many different ways it can be taken which is good for the listeners. The second verse is the one that takes you on a rollercoaster ride which a relationship takes you on. The softer vocal from Kaylee in the bridge is a great move.

Small Town Friday Nights has the signature Kaylee Bell sound that I adore hearing and the reason that my love for Kaylee's music grew. The first verse is full of those moments that you would only get living in a small town which I caught myself relating with. The honesty within the songwriting is something that gripped me right from the very start till the very end. The chorus is full of pop country style that I enjoy within songs full of meaning like this one and the more it continues the more I love and appreciate the lyrics. The fact that many of the lyrics are relatable makes it even more special especially heading into the second verse. The guitar breakdown is beautiful allowing for listeners to hear how incredible Kaylee is as a guitar player.

Shot At The Dark is upbeat and has that Kaylee sound that I know and love. Kaylee's soft crisp vocal  is great as it allows for the listeners to interrupt the lyrics as they wish, however you ultimately deserve to be happy. The second verse feels like it's one of those if you don't you'll regret it whether it's a relationship or chasing your dreams. I enjoy the mix of vocal tones especially within the bridge and the final chorus which ends the song brilliantly. There is something so beautiful and pure about the song's songwriting from Kaylee that stands out making for a brilliant story.

Bonus Track, Keith (stripped) begins with a slower soft instrumental to start giving a wonderful feel about it. Kaylee's soft vocal range during the first verse as she sings about that summer you spent with that one special person singing your heart out, being in love. The chorus features some great lyrics that had me really feeling the country artist appreciation which is obvious that Kaylee has for Keith Urban within the song, and I love how passionate Kaylee is about him as an artist praising him in such an amazing way with lyrics that are super catchy, and makes you appreciate every single word. Keith is the perfect summer anthem. The second verse continues wonderfully with the uptempo vocal range allowing for the lyrics to have there moment to shine. The more the song grows the more I catch myself singing along to every single word. The bridge features some catchy lyrics ahead of the instrumental before the final chorus that ties Keith together beautifully.
