INTERVIEW WITH KARISSA ELLA ABOUT HER LATEST EP, GROWING WINGS

This week's interview with singer-songwriter, Karissa Ella as she releases her latest EP, Growing Wings last Friday 11th July.
Growing Wings is made up of 7 tracks.

Hey Karissa, it's wonderful to be chatting with you once again. How are you?
Hello! I'm so happy to be chatting with you again! I am doing well!

You recently released your brand new EP, how are you feeling about people finally being able to hear it?
My EP is finally out in the world, and I couldn't be more excited. It's been such a journey putting this project together, so to finally share it feels amazing!

Can you please tell us a little about each track featured?
1. Honky Tonk Heartbeat - This one’s the party starter! It's high-energy, feel-good country that makes you want to dance. I wanted a fun, drinking song fans could let loose to!
2. Last Call Cowboy - It's a fun song all about embracing the excitement of the moment and understanding that not every love story is meant to last forever.
3. Hall of Fame - This song is a love letter to the small-town heroes who never ask for recognition but deserve all of it. It's for the blue-collar folks who built the town and keep the community going.
4. Growing Wings - The heart of the EP. It’s about stepping into who you are, even when you're scared or unsure. It's that moment when you realize you're not stuck, you're just in the middle of growing into something beautiful.
5. Heartbreaker - This one's sassy and fun. It flips the script on the classic heartbreak story! It's about being the heartbreaker and owning your power unapologetically. It's bold, confident, and a little mischievous. I felt like this song was something a little different for me and I loved it!
6. 'Til Chevy Stops Making Trucks - A timeless love song about finding that once-in-a-lifetime kind of love - something real, steady, and unshakable. I've been lucky enough to find a love that would take something out of this world to break, and I hope when people hear this song, it gives them hope that they'll find it too.
7. Mamas Do - It's an emotional tribute to the strength, love, and quiet sacrifices of moms. It's a thank-you to the women who raised us, shaped us, and stood by us and I hope other girls and women hear their own stories in it too.
You really do know how to take us listeners on a journey with each of your songs! There is something so magical about each and every one of them.

I have to ask how did you decide on these seven songs for the EP?
I knew I wanted this project to show all the different sides of who I am not just as an artist, but as a person. I wanted a little bit of everything: heartbreak, love, vulnerability, something fun, and a song that honors where I come from. These seven songs felt like the perfect combination of different chapters of life.

How long did the EP take to complete from the writing, recording and releasing?
I spent most of 2024 bouncing in and out of writing rooms, trying to find the songs that truly felt right for this chapter. Not every song is a hit, so it takes time, patience, and a lot of heart to dig up the gems. I really believe we landed on a group of songs that feel cohesive and honest, and I'm so proud of how it all came together. The best part? All that writing means there's even more new music on the horizon, because a lot of great songs didn't make the cut this time around!

I have nothing but praise for you with your song-writing - you really are a gifted singer-songwriter. How would you describe Growing Wings in one word?
Transformative. Each song on this EP represents growth in its own way - whether it’s through heartbreak, healing, love, or learning to let go. Growth doesn't always look the same, but no matter what it looks like, you're still becoming stronger… still growing those wings.

With us being half way through 2025, I have to ask what are your plans for the rest of the year?
More music and more tour dates! The work never stops!

Can we expect to see you in the UK anytime soon?
I can only hope and dream that my music takes me across the pond. I love the UK and it would be incredible to combine my two passions of traveling and music.

If you don't mind I'd like to ask you a few Quick Fire Questions

Easiest song to write? “Last Call Cowboy”
Hardest song to write? “Mamas Do”
Favourite song you have ever written? “I Hope Heaven’s Like” or “Hall of Fame”
Do you prefer happy or sad songs? I love writing both! But I often gravitate towards writing emotional storytelling songs.
Favourite part of the song to write? The Chorus!!

Thank you so much for your time, Karissa it's been wonderful to chat with you again.
