EP REVIEW - KARISSA ELLA - GROWING WINGS

Today (Friday 11th July) will see singer-songwriter, Karissa Ella release her latest EP, Growing Wings which is made up of 7 tracks.

Honky Tonk Heartbeat is the perfect opening with a proper country feel mixed with some fantastic lyrics that have been beautifully written allowing for Karissa's crisp vocal tones to shine through. I love the catchiness of the song especially with Karissa's energy that is wonderfully showcased throughout making this song extra special. The electric guitar solo in the middle was genius.

Last Call Cowboy has a traditional country feel which I absolutely loved as its love story is filled with a lot of honesty. The chorus is stunning and once again filled with love, reminding me of the very reason that I fell in love with country music in the first place. One thing about Last Call Cowboy I love is the fact that it takes you through all the stages of the relationship - finding your one is special and something everyone deserves. The lyrics are brilliant and feature some gorgeous songwriting with the softer tone of the bridge allowing us listeners hear another side of this talented artist.

Hall of Fame is one of my favourite Karissa releases. The softer tone from Karissa is beautiful as you can see the family feels mixed with hometown vibes - remember where you come from. The verses that lead into the chorus are great allowing for a wonderful song about your hometown/ the places where you grew up reminding me of many childhood memories. Something I got from Hall of Fame is that don't be afraid to ask for help from your family as they will always support you even if you don't believe in yourself/ abilities. Thank you for being so open and honest, Karissa it really is appreciated.

Growing Wings begins with a soft instrumental along with some of the most honest, vulnerable and relatable lyrics. The soft tones from Karissa are brilliantly timed and allow for the verses to show a lot of growth. The chorus is my favourite part of the song as it shows most of the vulnerable and about how as we get older its OK to outgrow things and move on. The second verse is beautiful as it captures the next steps/ moves wonderfully and capturing it in the best way, however, it's the way that the third verse is the most raw that shows another side of who Karissa is as an artist in the most beautiful way.

Heartbreaker begins with an upbeat instrumental which is very different from some of her songs as it showcases a very different side of who she is as an artist which I enjoy. The lyrics throughout are super catchy and listeners can hear a little flirty yet fun side within this song. The raw and honesty that are showcased are fantastic and filled with many happy memories. One thing that I really enjoyed was the female empowerment that was showcased at times.

'Til Chevy Stops Making Trucks is filled with many 90's country vibes that are complimented well by Karissa's vocal tones. The lyrics just run of your tongue making it sound extra special especially as they are filled with so much love and honesty. The chorus sounds rather groovy giving off this proper country romance feel which I have a feeling many listeners will enjoy. The vocal tones from Karissa are perfectly selected and demonstrated throughout allowing for many stunning moments.

Mamas Do is an emotional tribute to her mother, and the special relationship many of us a lucky to have/ had with our mother or mother figures who are often their for us through our highs as well as lows. The chorus is stunning and shows such an authentic song that I have nothing but praise for. This song is extremely special as it's written from the heart with many emotional yet honest lyrics making it a super special song.
