INTERVIEW WITH KYLIE MORGAN ABOUT HER LATEST SINGLE, LIKE MY OWN
Today (Friday 23rd January), US singer-songwriter, Kylie Morgan is releasing her latest single, Like My Own, and I recently had the opportunity to speak with Kylie about the single, her debut headline London show last month, and her 2026 plans.
Hi Kylie, How are you?
I'm doing really well, thank you so much for asking! Honestly, I'm feeling very grateful and a little emotional today with this song being out in the world. It's a good day.
Today sees the release of Like My Own, can you please tell us a little about the song?
Like My Own is a song that's really close to my heart. It's about a whole new era of my life I truly thought would never exist. I never imagined loving two humans so deeply that their joy, their pain, their wins - all of it - feels like it's yours too. I think we've all had someone like that in our lives, and I wanted to write something honest that reflected that kind of love from a perspective I've never heard a song from before.
I have to know what come first the chorus or the verses?
The chorus actually came first in the first co-write but after we finished I didn't feel like the melodies were as strong as the chorus lyrics. It kind of poured out all at once at 6am, one morning when the melody and verse lyrics came to me in a dream. Then, it all came together super naturally after that.
There is something so vulnerable about lyrics, and the meaning of the song that gave me goosebumps when I first heard it - was writing Like My Own difficult?
Thank you for saying that, that truly means the world. It was definitely vulnerable, but I wouldn't say it was difficult in a bad way. I specially wanted to write it with a fellow mom and artist to get her perspective through the process to make sure I honored Ava's mom in the best way I could as well. It felt very real and very necessary. Those are the songs that usually scare me a little - and I've learned that's often how I know I'm on the right track.
Did you always plan on making Like My Own, your first single of 2026?
Not at first, but the literal moment I finished it, I came out to the car and played it for my boyfriend, Alek. We posted a sneak peak of the song & it immediately got a reaction I could've never imagined. Millions of views later, it was undeniable it would be the first single.
What was the process like from writing, recording to now releasing the single?
It was honestly such a beautiful process. Writing it felt very intimate, recording it felt even more so because it was just me, a piano, and my producer. And now releasing it feels a so surreal. I'm just so thankful for everyone who helped bring it to life and trusted the heart of the song all the way through.
How would you describe Like My Own in one word?
Heartfelt.
I have nothing but praise for this song as it's one of those songs that I have a feeling many people will appreciate the song.
That is so incredibly kind of you to say. Truly, that's all I could ever hope for - that people feel something and maybe see a little bit of their own story in it.
I have to ask, are there any plans for a new EP or album in 2026?
I can't say too much just yet *smiles* but I will say there is a big announcement coming Tuesday, and I'm very excited about what I'm creating right now. I'm really proud of this next chapter.
We have to talk about your debut London show last month, how did you find the UK audience?
Oh my goodness, the UK audience was incredible. I felt so welcomed and so loved. It was one of those nights I'll never forget.
How did the UK crowd compare to the US?
Honestly, music connects us all in such a special way. The UK crowd brought so much heart and energy - it felt different, but in the best possible way.
Do you have any plans on coming back to tour over here?
You will find out Tuesday *smiles*
Kylie, thank you very much for your time it's been the great and thank you for making this Kylie Morgan fan very happy and honoured to have interviewed you.
Thank you. That truly means more to me than I can put into words. I'm so thankful for your support and for taking the time to talk with me. It's an honour - really.
