EMMERDALE EPISODE REVIEW - TONIGHT EMMERDALE INTRODUCED MATTY

When it was announced that Hannah Barton was coming back but as a man called 'Matty' played by Ash Palmisciano, I was a little surprised because Hannah was one of my favourite Bartons' but I am excited to see how/ where this storyline goes.

Ash on Matty's arrival via Digital Spy: "I'm very excited to be joining the very welcoming Emmerdale family. From nervous auditions to now working alongside the team daily has been truly amazing. Matty's a ground-breaking character to play and I can't wait to see what's ahead for him."

Tonight, we saw Ash's first appearance as Matty which I absolutely loved especially as when he first entered he was sneaky around Butler's Farm even with Faith walking in and finding photo on the floor she wasn't concerned. But as Matty is searching through everything looking for his birth certificate just as Cain arrives - Cain then questions Matty's which left Matty scared before Cain pushes him leading Matty to knocking his head on the table. Moments later, Matty wakes up and Cain talks to him, Cain is shocked as Matty knows him which Cain is taken aback by.
Moments later, Matty and Cain are back in the kitchen having a stand off with Cain being determined to know who Matty is with Cain becoming more angry about the whole situation. But in good old fashioned Cain style, he demands Matty stands up and tells him to empty his pockets but with him taking out his Birth Certificate (the reason, he arrived in the first place) this lead to Matty telling Cain who he really is, Cain's shocked! When does this happen with Cain?
With Moira then entering and recognising her 'son' who she still sees as her daughter, Hannah. But I did love how Moira recognised even if she is scared to accept him but this is understandable.
Moira is shocked and Matty is scared, can they repair their relationship?

I do love how open Matty and Moira as being with each other around the kitchen table but I am also worried for them both with accepting each other after so long, leaving Moira struggling to understand Hannah's decision to become 'Matty'.
All Moira really needs is answers from Matty and Matty needs to answer them honestly - this will then lead to the start of things being sorted (or at least they will be on the right path. I can hope.)
I really hope Moira is able to accept Matty? The Bartons' deserve happiness for once surely!

Final thoughts on the episode, I am happy that Emmerdale showed the real emotions of the family struggling to accept their family's change but then from the person going through it show the true person they have wanted to be for year (or who they may have been for a few months/ years!)

Ash is Emmerdale's first regular trans cast member and I like the fact that Emmerdale as cast Ash for this role.

These episodes of Emmerdale aired between Monday 25th June on ITV.
