EP REVIEW - APRIL KRY - SINK OR SWIM

This Friday (10th August) will see US singer-songwriter, April Kry release her latest EP, Sink or Swim which is made up of 8 songs.
Sink or Swim features songs about April moving to Nashville and the beginning of her journey with each song meaning something exceptionally unique to April.
April also wrote on 7 of the tracks on Sink or Swim.

Sink or Swim starts with a wonderful instrumental featuring just a guitar which sets up the song amazingly. April's vocals are stunning and features some catchy lyrics which you could tell are from April's heart. The verses and chorus are nothing but honest featuring some of the best and most heartfelt lyrics. Sink or Swim is the perfect song to open this EP with because it shows us the good, the bad and the ugly from the start of April's journey and you can't help but feel like everyone at some point in their lives can relate to this song and I definitely can now with finally learning to go and achieve my dreams so thank you April for speering me to do so with this song.

Ain't It Good has a beautiful but simple instrumental to start which is supported beautiful by April's vocals. You can hear the hard times in which April has faced from the lyrics within the chorus. The first and second verse are just beautiful and very heartfelt - this is one of the reasons why April is a rare gem of an artist in my eyes. I absolutely adore the fact that April has had the courage to talk about her difficult times within her journey in this song. I have nothing but complete praise for April's song-writing abilities with this song.

Carbon Copy starts with a softer guitar instrumental which sets a beautiful tone for this song which you can help but bop away too. The first verse showcases April's beautiful soft tone with some rather wonderful lyrics. I love that the message you get in this song towards the end of the first verse and the first line of the chorus is that it's OK to be who you are/ wannabe and you don't have to pretend to be someone you are not anymore! The chorus is rather magical and very connectable - the emotions  felt upon hearing this song is like no other. I felt emotional every time I was listening to the chorus and you can't help but hear the blood sweat and tears that April has put into this song with her incredible song-writing skills.

Hurry Up And Wait starts with a beautiful and simply sounding instrumental which is wonderful and makes the song amazing right from the off. The first verse sets the song off with the softer tone from April with her meaningful lyrics that you can't help but connect with right from the start. The chorus features some of the most heartfelt lyrics I have ever heard. Hurry Up and Wait is some of those songs that is so precious and one I urge everyone to listen to when you can. April writing this song straight from her heart and being brave enough to do so is something that I am so thankful for her doing because for me at the moment I can relate to it so much.

Chaser starts with a upbeat vocal from April which is different from the rest of this EP but divides this EP up amazingly. I love the upbeat vocal range which allows April to show off her darker side within the verses to which she does wonderfully and in such a way you can help but feel for anyone who has ever been in this situation which makes from a place of experience. The chorus is a little rocky but upbeat along with being very catchy which is just wonderful.

I Feel At Home is the turning point for April with this EP because you can feel that this song is the point in April's life and being comfortable with someone but thanking herself for the move that she made in her life with her happiness. But upon moving to Nashville, it shows that April had the guts to do something that she has always wanted to do when it comes to her being a singer/ song-writer and getting to release this honest songs. I Feel At Home starts with a wonderful upbeat instrumentals which you can't help but love right from the off. The vocal range that April gives is just wonderful from all the emotions. Thank you for making me cry with this song, April.

Perfectly Imperfect starts with a darker sounding tune with just a guitar to accompany/ which is rather special. April vocals are rather dark sounding to start but it's stunning because it allows April to get across the message in which she wants too! The chorus is rather special along with it being super catchy which April is brutally honest throughout and I adore this about April's song-writing. Perfectly Imperfect is a song in which I believe that everyone could/ can relate to when it comes to accepting ourselves for who we are and where we have come from/ where we are going! Perfectly Imperfect lets people know that what they are feeling is human and that's its OK to feel like this! April's softer and joyful vocals throughout the chorus along with the meaningful lyrics from her heart are beyond stunning - what a perfect fit!
I have to admit Perfectly Imperfect did make me cry and I am not ashamed to admit this, songs like this are rare and rather unique. Perfectly Imperfect is 'perfectly perfect'. Perfectly Imperfect is a song that I wish I had when I was growing up!

Little Plot of Dirt (Bonus Track) starts with a wonderful quirky instrumental which is shortly joined by April's vocals. Little Plot of Dirt is a little bit of a sadder song but one that works greatly on this EP because it's such an honest EP that April is only wanting to show her journey with and you can certainly pick this up with this song. The verses and chorus are just stunning and one you can't help but relate too. Little Plot of Dirt is the only song of this EP that April did not write but she chose a wonderful song with some wonderful lyrics to match.
