DEBUT ALBUM REVIEW - HANNAH ELLIS - THAT GIRL

Today (Friday 12th January) will see country singer-songwriter, Hannah Ellis release her debut album, That Girl which is made up of 13 tracks. Hannah is signed to Curb Records.

Country Can begins with a small town country feel thanks to the soft guitar that is opens up Hannah's debut album wonderfully with the lyrics being beautifully delivered leading to the chorus taking you on a journey. Country Can reminds me of C2C and the discovery of this talented artist in between many of the other artists on the stages. Hannah is a brilliant singer-songwriter that is shown within all three verses and the chorus blend together fantastically bringing the song together and making you want to sing along from start to finish.

Us has a soft instrumental with heartfelt lyrics about those special moments in your relationship that make you realise how lucky you are to have that special person. The chorus is rather beautiful talking about those special moments you have shared that make you both 'us'. The second verse is a little emotional with the instrumental breaking the song up wonderfully.

That Girl begins with a soft instrumental that showcases the vulnerable lyrics that many females will be able to relate too. One thing that That Girl shows is that it is ok to be individual and embrace who you are and where you come from. The lyrics throughout at filled with many poignant lyrics with some being catchy with Hannah's stunning songwriting been displayed. It's OK to wear your heart on your sleeve with Hannah's vocal tones are gorgeous and sung from her heart.

Wine Country is the typical getting ready for a night out kind of song with it being one that is perfect for getting the evening started. It's one song that I am excited to share with my girls especially with so many special occasions coming up with the catchy being one no doubt we will also be singing at the top of our lungs. The second verse is filled with such honesty and my favourite part of the song. The chorus is wonderful.

Someone Else's Heartbreak starts with a soft piano instrumental which compliments Hannah's soft vocal tones brilliantly. The storytelling within all three verses are stunning coming together fantastically and you can feel so much heartbreak especially within the chorus that I caught myself getting emotional over as you can feel so much pain, but at the same time like a little lesson has been learnt due to the catchiness of the song. Someone Else's Heartbreak is filled with such vulnerability.

Karma on the Rocks has a rocky sounding instrumental that works well with Hannah's crisp tone. The first verse sets the song up wonderfully as it heads into the chorus that is filled with vulnerability as you can hear a little life experience within the songwriting which honestly is something that made me smile as this is something I love to hear in songs. The tone within the second verse into the chorus is beautiful and has this wonderful beauty about it. The crisp tone in the bridge is stunning as the softer side of who she is as an artist is shown very well.

Still begins with a soulful instrumental that sees the first verse feature some fantastic lyrics that make for wonderful listening whilst painting a picture of heartbreak that reminds you of that special person/ relationship. My heart broke as I was listening to the chorus with emotional lyrics, however, it was the second verse that saw me having tears in my eyes due to the vulnerability that is shared. Hannah's crisp tone on the final verse was beautiful as the softer tone in the final chorus bought the song to a brilliant end.

Replaceable has a upbeat, rocky instrumental with lyrics that are filled with many emotions reminding us of many of our own experiences. The lyrics within the chorus take you on an emotional rollercoaster with the vulnerability in Hannah's tone making for Replaceable to have this beautiful sound. Replaceable allowed for me to go off into my own little world as I listened to the song filled by the realisation that everything in life is replaceable except for ourselves with each and everyone of us being unique bringing something beautiful into the world.

Somebody Else begins with a soft soulful instrumental. Hannah's soft vocal tones allow for some brilliant storytelling to be shared. There is something so beautiful about the honesty within the lyrics that give Somebody Else this wonderful moment as the lyrics roll of the tongue especially in the chorus. Every single verse offers something rather unique and continues a different part of the experience of that relationship with every chorus sounding like the first time you hear it. This song demonstrates that Hannah is one hell of a singer-songwriter.

Plans brings a different style to start with a soft and slower guitar opening allowing for Hannah's soft crisp tone to be showcased with her wonderful lyrical ability once again with the lyrics being ones you can able to interpret then how you want too. The lyrics are filled with all those plans we want for our futures that fill me with hope for the year ahead. The brilliant storytelling within the lyrics make you realise that only you are in charge of your dreams/ life plans and that it is OK if they take time only you can decide if they are worth it. Hannah's softer vocals on the third verse are stunning as the lead into the chorus wonderfully bringing the song to a great end.

Home and a Hometown has a wonderful guitar instrumental with Hannah's softer tones with emotional lyrics of your hometown. The family home and the memories you make are growing up reminding me of my incredible family. The honesty of growing up and heading towards the first steps into adulthood as you begin the journey of independence you can hear so much growth of who Hannah is as an artist. The second and third verse bring the song together fantastically mixed with Hannah's crisp tone.

One of These Days begins with Hannah's soft tone featuring a lot of vulnerability full of heartbreak, but one that left me feeling like lessons were learnt know matter how difficult it was. The lyrics within the chorus are gorgeous showcasing Hannah's brilliant songwriting allowing you to paint your own picture to the songs lyrics. The storytelling throughout is just brilliant and I am so glad Hannah is releasing your own album.

Too Much and Not Enough has an incredibly powerful instrumental to start whilst offering a soft, slow sound. The first verse is filled with raw and honest lyrics allowing for a lot of vulnerability to be shown. The lyrics are powerful, and ones that made me a little emotional as I caught myself relating with many of them - songs that are able to do this for me are something that I have to share. The chorus is filled with emotionally connecting lyrics between all the insecurities we feel at many different times of our lives. Hannah's vulnerability within this song is incredible.
