INTERVIEW WITH SINGER-SONGWRITER, MARYNN TAYLOR ABOUT HER DEBUT ALBUM
This week's interview is with singer-songwriter, MaRynn Taylor who last month released her debut album, MaRynn.
Hi MaRynn. It's wonderful to be speaking with you today, how are you?
I am doing so well thank you for asking!
Can I please ask you to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi y'all! I'm MaRynn Taylor and I'm a country music singer and songwriter from Nashville, TN!
Last month, you released your debut album, MaRynn - how excited are you to have the album you worked so hard on out there?
It's really exciting to finally have it out! Most of these songs are songs I've been working on this past year, but it feels like I've been working on my debut album my whole life. It's definitely been a crazy ride to get here to this moment!
The album is made up of 12 tracks, how did you decide on what songs you wanted to feature?
A lot of these songs are pretty vulnerable and close to my heart, so once I felt a little uncomfortable about people hearing some of them, I knew it was the right. I called it MaRynn because I wanted it to be a first name basis album. And that means sharing what I'm going through or what I've been through.

Having listened to the album, I have to say there is something so pure within your vocals and the story-telling that is beautifully captured.
Thank you! That means a lot to me! That's what I've always loved about Trisha Yearwood, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift. I've always thought they've done a great job at that, so thank you!
I have to ask is there a reason why the tracks are shared on the album the way they have been?
I wanted “pretty much” to be a single along with “she broke up with the boy” because those are the ones I felt like people would gravitate to the most. I feel like all my songs are like my children and you should never pick favorites, but out of the whole album I'd have to say those two are up there.
She Broke Up With The Boy is a reply to the Trisha Yearwood song, She's In Love With The Boy - what make you want to respond to this song?
I’ve always, always, always loved that song…But I can't relate to being in love. I can relate to break ups and guys doing you dirty - that's kind of my life right now, haha! I wanted to give it a twist and add on to the story, like what if Katie broke up with Tommy?
I know this is a random question, but is there one song on the album that you wish people knew the story behind?
“free ain’t free” was a very hard song to write for me and the backstory is very messy. When I'm ready to talk about it, I will, but for now the details I put in that song are the only things I'm ready to put out into the world.
How would you describe your debut album in one word?
MaRynn.
With only a few months left of 2025, what are you hoping to achieve before the year is out?
I get to go on tour with Chris Young and sing some Christmas songs! It's my favorite holiday and I'm so happy he invited me to come celebrate it on the road.
If you don't mind I'd like to ask you a few Quick Fire Questions
Easiest song to write? “pretty much”
Hardest song to write? “free ain't free”
Favourite song you have ever written or heard? “longer than me”
Do you prefer happy or sad songs? Sad
Favourite part of the song to write? The part where I get to belt. I normally put them at the end of the second chorus, haha!
Favourite place to perform? The Opry
Thank you very much for your time, it has been fantastic chatting with you, MaRynn.
