ALBUM REVIEW - COLBIE CAILLAT - THIS TIME AROUND
Today (Friday 26th September) will see singer-songwriter, Colbie Caillat releases her latest album called This Time Around featuring some of Colbie's classic tracks. With Colbie Caillat being a massive part of my childhood and her music helped me through an extremely really tough time, and to hearing this stripped back version of many classic Colbie Caillat songs.
This Time Around is an duet based album featuring 12 songs and is released via Blue Jean Baby Record.
Fallin' For You with Maren Morris is a brilliant female empowerment song that sees both Colbie and Maren's voices work wonderfully well together with both artists having a great understanding of the songs lyrics and bringing their own story to the song. Brighter Than The Sun with Walker Hayes is an old Colbie classic that I love as it reminds me of summer days with all the memories that they bring along with the summer relationships we all probably had with Colbie bringing an uplifting version. Kinda Single with Lee Brice is soft and vulnerable song that is filled with different emotions that bring a vulnerability to the album that is brilliant to hear whilst still bringing the sun aspect. Live Without with the brilliant duo Maddie & Tae is an emotionally written and delivered song that broke me many times due to the vulnerability whilst remaining a little fun making this song one I never knew I needed, and one I have no doubt I'll be playing continuously for a while - I feel like I need to hear a live version of this song so please ladies come to the UK so I can hear this live. Circles with Gavin DeGraw with the guitar instrumental sets the tone beautifully allowing for Colbie and Gavin's vocal to shine through with their beautiful take on the lyrics.
Lucky with Jason Mraz features an instrumental that allows for a softer tone song that allowed me to realise what a wonderful song this is and a song that I forgot about featuring a simple but beautiful message. Can't Say No with Ryan Hurd is a slower song but one that highlights many emotions and a raw sound which adds a very different feel to the album, and the final track is If You Love Me Let Me Go featuring Russell Dickerson is a fantastic finale for me as this duet is one I was really unsure whether it would work, however from the very moment that both artist sung I was surprised and bought into their version with a beautiful love story developing but knowing also that it won't work, and that letting them go would be best for both people involved.
Bubbly which now featuring Amos Lee is stripped back and as a duet is fantastic adding another layer of emotion that bought many tears to my eyes along with Realize featuring the brilliant Mitchell Tenpenny which is my favourite Colbie song along with Try now featuring the fabulous Hillary Scott of Lady A which personally is my favourite of this album which sees a new insight and meaning for the song and it's brilliantly written lyrics, along with I Never Told You now featuring the brilliant Chris Young with all 3 having many moments of reflection coming through with these brand new versions with I Never Told You being an uplifting song which for me as a listener I learnt a new appreciation for the songs lyrics and the songwriting which is breathtaking - and something I am really pleased Colbie chose to do with this album.
