THIS WEEK'S EASTENDERS SAW LAUREN STRUGGLE AS SHE WELCOMED HER NEWBORN CHILD AS VE DAY WAS CELEBRATED

During this week's visit to Albert Square, EastEnders viewers saw Lauren Branning face a tough week as her pregnancy came to an end, but not before Cindy Beale returned causing drama.

Ahead of the engagement celebrations beginning in Monday's episode (5th May) with Kathy Cotton noticing a spelling error with their cake but honestly it was nice to see some laughter with Kathy sharing some wise words. However, it was Peter Beale's distraction that really frustrated me as viewers could see how anxious his fiancée, Lauren Branning was ahead of the midwife appointment with the vulnerable side of the character portrayed which once again Peter failed to notice. Later, with their engagement party in full swing, Ian Beale made an ill-judged comment that led to a wonderful scene between Kathy and Lauren showing how strong these characters are when it comes to supporting one another.

After Cindy Beale's arrival the drama continued on Tuesday (6th May) where it was great to see Lauren finally stand up to Peter giving him the ultimatum following the discovery of Peter being in touch with her causing her stress during their tough heart-to-heart, later, bringing on Lauren's labour with Cindy being the one by her side, however, it was lovely to see last night (Wednesday 7th May) a scared and worried Lauren lean on Cindy as the pair opened up to one another about their pasts as Cindy admitted what she put Lauren through. Lauren naming her son, Jimmy in a nod to Jim Branning which was an interesting nod to the past. As much as I am pleased Peter finally stood up to Cindy, I do wonder how long it will last this time!

However with Lauren's past issues, I do wonder what's to come for her newborn son going forward as EastEnders are very good at raising awareness with hard-hitting storylines.

This week has seen some wonderful acting from Jacqueline Jossa and Michelle Collins. Also, I have nothing but praise for Jessica Barnes' writing of Tuesday and Wednesday's episodes.

Elsewhere in Albert Square, Teddy and Nicola Mitchell's drama continued following the aftermath of last week's revelations as Harry Mitchell open up to Gina Knight about everything that happened to his fiancée, as Vicki Fowler faced an interesting week as she helped Zack Hudson before the truth was revealed about her partner, Ross Marshall who is extremely mysterious and to be honest I think it will be interesting to see how this will play out, but when Vicki discovered the truth she was shocked and who can blame her.

During tonight's episode (8th May) was the opening of The Queen Vic that was brilliant to witness as it bought the community together for VE Day - love the sense of community! I really enjoyed the flashbacks, it was a really wonderful idea to feature those great attention to detail especially when it came to the dialogue.

These episodes of EastEnders aired between Monday 5th May - Thursday 8th May on BBC1 at 7.30pm as well as BBCi Player.
