3 TRACK EP REVIEW - RUNAWAY JUNE - BACKSTORY

Today (Friday 20th August) will see US country music trio, Runaway June made up of Jennifer Wayne, Naomi Cooke and Natalie Stovall release a 3-track EP called backstory.

backstory is made of 3 songs that "tell the stories and paint the picture of the heartbreak, joy & freedom that comes along with growing up & moving forward. They represent the road to loving yourself & ultimately someone else." - Runaway June's twitter

Forgot About That has a country rootsy feel instrumental which I have to admit, I absolutely love opening this EP wonderfully. The first verse sees this country feel come to life with all the hometown memory feels, and you can hear how much seeing that one person again can bring up so much from your past that you had forgot about not making it any easier. The chorus of Forgot About That features some sassy upbeat vocals from the ladies in the most beautiful way allowing for their harmonies to shine through too. The lyrics that are featured throughout the chorus are gorgeous and allow for a beautiful love story to be demonstrated. The second verse continues with many heartbreak vibes and thinking about all these moments that you don't actually need that person you once thought you needed in your life. The verse is one of growth. The chorus blends to every single part of the song beautifully, and with the most beautiful story telling. The instrumental break up ahead of the final verse is wonderfully timed as the final chorus kicks in with softer vocals followed by the sassiness returning.

Down The Middle starts with a guitar and piano instrumental giving the song this soft and crisp fell. The first verse has a softer opening allowing for the lyrics to stand out with a beautiful message that gets you thinking. The chorus of Down The Middle features some lyrics that are very relatable giving me goosebumps thanks to the emotional, personal feel allowing for many WOW moments. The second verse continue with some emotionalness for me in tears as the story continues which will see the listeners hear a lot of emotion with many being able to relate to that making it amazing listening. The break up instrumental is one of those moments within the song that got me emotional again thanks to the heartfelt vocals in a softer tone. The bridge slows down ahead of the final chorus which sees the song end wonderfully. I have to admit that Down The Middle is my favourite song of the whole EP, and Runaway June in general.

T-Shirt starts with an upbeat, sassy and quirky instrumental which makes this song the perfect end for this brand new EP. The first verse has a lot of quirky, and sassy vocals with this fun loving song that you can hear a lot of passion within making it even more special for the listeners, and to showcase everything that is wonderful about Runaway June. The chorus of T-Shirt is wonderful with a lot of vulnerability thanks to the relationship break down being at the forefront which also sees the regret of the relationship ending but the important thing is, is that you have that 'T-Shirt' aha its a little moment of joy! The second verse continues with a Taylor Swift country vibe which I have to admit, I caught myself dancing around my room to as I am reviewing, but I love how the sassiness also returns bringing the whole Runaway June experience full circle. The bridge breaks up T-Shirt wonderfully bringing it full circle which is something I love it!
