Hello Melanie. Thank you for agreeing to this introducing interview with you all.
Thank you Kellie! I really appreciate you reaching out!

Firstly could we ask you to introduce yourselves?
Hi! I’m Melanie Meriney, a Nashville-based Urban pop/country artist from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Since I was eighteen, I’ve been actively pursuing a career in the music industry!

How old were you were you decided to start writing your own songs? And when did you write and perform your first song?
I wrote my first “song” in third grade after being inspired by Shania Twain! Obviously, it was the first of many attempts to write and write effectively! I began performing in church and in school around that time as well. My hometown community has always been extremely supportive of me.
What is your favourite country song and who is your favourite country artist (can be more than one)?
My favorite country song changes all the time as I hear genius lyrics and melodies around town and on the radio. However, if I had to pick a favorite of each, Shania Twain and her song “Still the One” are my choices. She inspired me to first begin pursuing music and that was the first cover song I learned on guitar.

What is the most inspirational song you have heard?
This is also tough! Off the top of my head, and being a huge Maren Morris fan, I like her song “Second Wind” from her Hero album. It reflects the struggle that I’m going through trying to break into the business and it is a great reminder that even when things seem like they aren’t happening after all, you just have to wait for the wheel to turn in your favor again. It’s all about determination and taking the “no’s” and negativity and using them as gasoline to get to where you want to be.
Now to talk about your music and plans for 2018;

So Melanie, you released your first single back in 2014 - what was that experience like?
In 2014 I released a song called “If I Know You” which is a ballad about knowing someone so well, even through a breakup. Some songs just speak to what’s in the forefront of your mind at the time, so I released it by itself after I recorded it. Music has always been a catharsis for me, and sometimes stuff that I need to get off my chest ends up in a song. Hopefully it finds the ear it needs to. I actually ended up signing a single song deal on it with Big Gap Music in Nashville. It was my first publishing experience.

And you released your first EP 'Up In Lights' on 5th May, 2017 - could you please tell us a little about how you choose the songs and your recording experience?
Yes!! ‘Up In Lights’ is a huge project for me because I feel like for the first time, I’m truly making music that belongs to me. As a writer and artist, I’m constantly growing, and the EP is an honest reflection of who I am in both of those aspects. I framed the album around the title track which is all about identity and the pursuit of this dream. It can be easy to lose track of who you are along the way, so it’s about my experiences that have made me realize who I truly am deep down. The rest of the album follows that same vein of discovering identity in life, love, and career and navigating the learning curve that we all have to drive ourselves.
I recorded with Josh Mendez and Michael Funk who perfectly understood my need to combine traditional country sounds with urban/northern-infused pop and rock accents. They made the experience really fun!

Melanie, what are you plans for 2018? What about new music?
I can’t wait to take my music on the road in 2018 and meet some new faces! I have some new shows going up on my website this month that I’m incredibly excited about and since I’m always in the writing room, I wouldn’t rule out a second set of songs in the later half of the year ;)

Thank you so much for your time.
Thank you!!!!
